So, some of you may remember one of the questions on WhySoSerious.com during the whole game was about "Dr. Death" The answer to it was "Gaslamp Dan Haslam." Now at the time, I just assumed he was a serial killer/mass murderer of some sort, as one of the earlier questions was about Jack The Ripper, and come on, Dr. Death.

But I've done some digging recently. Wikipedia has nothing on the man. I couldnt find anything that wasnt related to whysoserious.com on google. Using chacha.com, I was able to find two pages mentioning a person named Dan Haslam...

http://obhistory.wordpress.com/2007/06/26/july-19-at-7-pm-general-meeting-will-feature-dan-haslam/

He apparently works for the Ocean Beach, San Diego, CA historical society, and is the curator of the Gaslamp Quarter Historic Foundation...

This one actually has a picture of him.

Now, my question is, why use this guy? His name is nothing special, and he's apparently not a serial killer or mass murderer, and from what I can tell he's never been called "Dr. Death." So why use him when there are several killers named Dr. Death? Why use some old lawyer who works for a historical society? Anagrams of his name maybe? Who knows...

Discuss.

That's a question that is far too complicated for me to answer.

I never saw WhySoSerious before Rent-A-Clown appeared, so yeah. Feel free to enlighten me.

Perhaps it's just an homage to a figure that the Joker could "admire" or identify with?

A 50 year old man who runs a historical society is someone that Joker can admire or identify with?

I doubt that's the Haslam the site was referring to

so yeah i wonder how the hell that clue was figured out in the first place

Karl Hellfern (who we were asked not to name) was an early bat-rogue called "Doctor Death". Maybe Gaslamp Dan Haslam was a reinvention of the character named after the professer?

EDIT: There was a Doctor death in Sandman (Wesley Dodds) comics who euthanized elderly patients. There was also one in Doom Patrol.

this is the brick located near checkpoint at the convention centre in San Diego. the ground teams were told to find the real name of Doctor Death.

My guess is he's got nothing to do with villany of any kind, he's just a local figure in San Diego and the brick made for a convenient piece of the treasure hunt. Maybe Dr. Death is a professional nickname or something, I mean they've got SUZY as his other alias, poor fella! :whatever: The brick is in the Gaslamp Quarter of SD so the Society probably had license for a little mischief there.

this site's got a good rundown of the days events and how the clues were solved

Which checkpoint was that again?

I think it was checkpoint 5/6 could be wrong though.

Did this REALLY need its own thread???

I wish I could sue people for wasting my time.

You must have been held at gun-point and forced to post here then......huh..........

That happens, too.

People jump out of the computer once you click on a needless thread, hold a gun to your head, and say "*****, you better post or I'ma pull this mother ****ing trigger!"

I didn't even know about this. Interesting.

I know its my fault for clicking the thread and coming back to it. But c'mon, you gotta admit this entire topic was only a slight step above the "heath ledger gay cowboy playing joker threads" in relevancy.

Well, I disagree. It's a question about the ARG, it still has yet to be answered, and you for some reason keep coming back to it. So maybe you should either shut up, or report it to the mods as a useless thread, if you really think that will get it shut down. Or, I dont know, maybe just stop coming here?
