Perhaps she felt in H20 she didn't get a chance to kiss Michael. Now...she did. Homerun. This case is solved.

One simple thing about this:

She did it to kill off Laurie, plain and simple. She originally wanted a happy ending for Laurie with her killing Michael and her constant years of fear being over, buttt that was ruined by greed, so she figured she might as well come back and kill off the old gal because if Laurie was still alive, she'd be getting the Halloween question over and over again after H20.

Actually, once Josh Hartnett hit it big in Hollywood, he refused to come back to a "low, mediocre" series like Halloween. Some stars in Hollywood...

Fanboyism aside, it really was from a critical point of view.
