why did they change the typical look of Abomination for the movie?

i know in the comics and cartoons, Abomination is supposed to be green and with big scaly pointy ear things.
which is obviously very different from the movie-adaptation.
why did they make the changes? and was it better that they did? or would you have preferred the original comicbook look?

Basically, as designers, the filmmakers wanted to put their own stamp on the character while adapting his image to the big screen. That's how it works. He was still green though.

I didn't love the design, but I didn't hate it either. Neither like nor dislike. Although, while I initially didn't miss the standard Abomination ears, it was after hearing Leterrier's explanation for not including them that I reversed my opinion. Furthermore, naturally, as with most films I see (especially films with subject matter I care about to the same degree that I care about the Incredible Hulk), there were numerous stylistic decisions that I would have made differently were I in a position to, but most of them were of no real detriment to the film.

wait.. he was still green?? he looked orange to me.

also, what was leterrier's explanation for not including Ab's ears?

Hulk would simply rip them off

I guess in a clear night time fight, you want to be able to distinguish characters easily, otherwise it would have turned into a big green blob of a mess.

If they had included some pointy ears, i woudl have thought it was fine, maybe a real light green considering its bruce's blood also running through him in conjunction with the super soldier serum.

Another point was he didn't actually look physically strong or intimidating, there was no clear indication of either his size or strength before or really during his bout with the hulk based on his physical appearance.

In the video game, there is concept artwork that shows how a more traditional Abomination would have looked in the film.
Something tells me they were really close to using it. I bet there are storyboards out there with that Abomy.

As a comic fan. I would have preferred it but I'm sure they thought Joe MovieGoer would be saying, why is he a reptile all of the sudden?

I SERIOUSLY doubt they would care, its not like they sit there debating this stuff like we do.

Anyway, i still wish they would have with Abom's CB look, this one didnt improve or even match it IMO and it was a dissapointment to say the least.

I thought it was because Letterier felt audiences would question why he resembled a fish or a reptile, as opposed to the Hulk who still looks human.

That's one rationalization, yes. I doubt it would have mattered though. The design was always going to change, just as almost all the designs have changed in all the comic book films yet made. That's why they hire concept artists and production designers.

Sterns told Blonsky that Banner's blood + Super Soldier serum could create "An Abomination."

How much more explanation do they think audiences need?

Abom's movie design grew on me and I kinda liked it...but I think I still would have liked to have seen something closer to the original.

how come they didn't put any pants or shorts/underwear on Abom like in the comics?
i guess that's cool tho.

A monster in a speedo would look ridiculous.

I've got a monster in a speedo, and trust me, it's ridiculous.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAhahahaha..ha.ha....he.........I'm a sad, sad man. :csad:

that's right!! I never noticed that before......was Abomination wearing ANY PANTS in the movie????!!! :wow:

as for the actual look....I liked the movie's version. The huge spine sort of gave him a "reptilian" look.....kind of like those dinosaurs with those huge "sail back" spines.....

those protruding bones about his chest and clavical area is disgusting.
makes me get a weird craving for steak or something.

i like how they said that the reason he looks orange is because of fire.

The same reason they changed how Galactus looked in the FF sequel. Some stuff works better in comics then it would in movies. If they had done classic comic look for Galactus it would have been ridiculous and almost laughable. If they had done Abomination as a big green/blue guy with fish ears and a Creature from the Black Lagoon esque mouth it would have looked kind ridiculous.

There's adapting a character for movies or the lazy route, totally redesigning the character which is what happened with both Abomb and Galactus.
