Are Star Wars a guaranteed sell out no matter what?

There was no chance of making less than a billion just because of what came before. It would take a succession of failures before SW Episode films dipped below that. A billion is a lot for a spinoff though.

It was the sequel to a $2 billion movie, the inertia behind it was unparalleled. Solo won't have the same luxury, almost certain it comes under a billion.

Star Wars is an addiction for a lot of people. Even friends that didn't like it are planning to see it multiple times.

Partly, a lot of people liked it but they're not the most vocal. Partly the brand name and inertia -- same things that drove the Transformers series box office for a long time. A lot of people online would talk about how they hated the film and then proclaim they were going to see it a third time. Heh.

Good point.

This the second time we’ve had to close a “batman1 didn’t like Star Wars thread”.

Find something better to do.
