Why do so many dislike Ghostbusters II?

I love GHOSTBUSTERS II. The most noticeable difference for me is the cinematography. It's not as impressive as the stuff in GHOSTBUSTERS. But it's not a bad film by any stretch of the imagination.

I always enjoyed 2 more than 1. I felt 2 had better jokes/one-liners (my favorites being "Doe...Ray...Igon..." and "Two in the box, ready to go; we be fast and they be slow!"). Also, that subway scene used to scare the **** out of me when I was a kid, always had to look away during that part. I also liked the soundtrack more, and especially the villain ("He is VIGO!").

All in all this film was nothing but win for me, still is, and I'd watch it over the first anyday. Yes the first was a smarter film, but 2 was more fun and balanced to me.

2 is definitely "funnier", in an 80's sort of way. The effects are more impressive, and the story feels more "global", and more urgent. They're both just very fun movies.

Well, I think GB2's villian is a hell of a lot more interesting than Zule. He's actually SCARY.

Not to be overly picky, but Gozer was the main villain in the first Ghostbusters.

Zuul was "the gatekeeper" demon dog that possessed Sigourney Weaver and Vinz Clortho was "the keymaster" dog that possesed Rick Moranis.

I thought GB2 was OK when I first saw it, but it's nowhere near as good as the first one and it doesn't hold up as well. It just didn't flow like the first one.

GB - 9/10

GB2 - 7/10

I'd say the romance parts really bogged GB2 down. Way too much of Rick Moranis and Annie Potts, for one. That subplot was just an excuse to keep Moranis in the entire movie (and didn't she like Egon anyway?) And Too much of Venkman and Dana reconciling ,and the date scene went on too long.

The thing that was best about the first Ghostbusters was the rapier wit, and the humor seemed far slower in GB2. I still like GB2 w, but if I were to choose the better movie it's GB1 by a light year.

Also...didn't Peter spend like 90% of the movie out of costume anyway?

the movie gets a lot of flack, just like HOOK. I'll defend Hook like a motherhumper

Add me to the Ghostbusters II bandwagon as well. Love it. We should start a list.

The first movie is an almost untouchable classic no question. None of the imitators come close.

But I think the second one is a fine movie.

Here's the thing. All these newer sequels of older 80's franchises. They say they are "doing it right this time" or repairing the damage of other sequels. When really these new sequels are NOT that great.

Honestly? Temple of Doom > Crystal Skull. What a disappointment that movie was.

Don't get me started on Die Hard 4. I have no idea why Bruce Willis says the first and 4th are the only good ones. I think it could just be PR bull.

I missed possessed Sigourney Weaver in GB2. And the whole emphasis on slime was a little meh, as was the music, but still. Dem fine movie. None of the guys phone in their performances, or feel like they're repeating themselves...especially impressive for a comedy sequel.

"Suck in the guts guys, we're the Ghostbusters."

The only things I didn't like about GB2 was that they didn't spend alot of time at firehouse like they did in the first, and also that they had those new gray suits and only wore them during a montage.

Other than that, I loved the movie.

I remember at the time (yes, I'm old, I saw in the theater) a lot of people complained that humor seemed dumbed down from the first movie, and they felt it had been turned into more of a kids' film because of the animated series, so it lost its edgier humor.

I agreed with that, because I thought the first film was MUCH funnier. But I didn't hate the sequel.

Don't think the second movie was bad, but like some have said it felt kind of dumbed down for the kid's audience it got from the cartoon. Liked the first more because it didn't seem dumbed down.

GB 2 was more cartoony but it wasn't bad at all.

You hit the nail on the head.

And I love Temple of Doon; the argument that Crystal Skull was better is thrown out of the window because at least Temple didn't have an awkward script to deal with.

What's going to be different about Ghostbusters 3 that will make it not suck like apparently so many felt about Ghostbusters 2?

This is the kind of logic I have a problem with the new sequels to the 80's generation of movies.

What sucks is that they would use CG. No disrespect, but I love the look of the older movies and the FX. I don't want to see what they would look like done in CG.

In Crystal Skull they promised time and time again it was going to be done the old fashioned way, old school and all that crap. When they did end up putting tons of dumbass CG in the movie. CG monkeys. CG prairie dogs. And lots of bad looking CG fight scenes and exteriors. I freaking hated that.

I love both parts, in Ghostbusters 1 it was established that they are the answer to who we are going to call when there's something strange in our neighborhood. Then in Ghostbusters 2 we find out they are infact too hot to handle and yet at the same time too cold to hold.

PLUS+++++

It had, Vigo the Carpathian AKA Vigo the Cruel, Vigo the Torturer, Vigo the Despised, and Vigo the Unholy (also Vigo the Butch) Vigo wasn't exactly a man of the people. He died at the age of 105, but not from old age. He was poisoned, stabbed, shot, hung, stretched, disemboweled, drawn and quartered. And get this....before his head died he uttered this prophetic warning: "Death is but a door, time is but a window. I'll be back."

While I like GB2 I love the first more. The problems with 2 I have are that it seems like they just re-treaded a lot of the first one.
