Ghostbusters II Appreciation

GB II like Predator II is/was an underestimated sequel.

PS : I watched it few days ago.

Ghostbusters 2 isn't horrible at all. I really don't understand why it has the reputation that it has.

With the reboot now official and announced for next year, it'll be interesting to see how this movie will be looked at by comparison and if people will start looking at it in a better light. I kind of want the reboot to happen solely for that.

At least GB2 tried to keep a sameness but be different at the same time. Its such a good film.
I don't even want to think about the reboot.

Its not horrible. It has a reputation of not living up to the original. Much like Gremlins 2. Somewhat enjoyable as well.

I got a feeling the new film will make up appreciate GB2 even more.

I find a slight irony in that folks urging others to reevaluate negative feelings on Ghostbusters 2 would be standing firm to a hope that Ghostbusters 3 (or whatever we call it) is a fail. It's like saying I don't know why people don't give GB2 a fair chance? By the way, I'm not giving GB3 a fair chance.

I'm a lover of all things Ghostbusters... the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want the franchise to have life, I want new toys, and I want the new generation of fans to understand my love. Because of this, why would I hope that Ghostbusters 3 is a failure? It may not be at all like I envisioned, but it's success brings new interest to the franchise while a failure could be it for the franchise.

Just my handful of pennies.

We did get a very small part of this with Slimer animatics added in, but I haven't seen the rest, and it sucks we didn't get more of these.
I know but if you see this video then you know that scene wasn't even complete as the bluray version is missing Louis yelling about the pizza's, plus an extra missing shot of Janine.

It never felt like a rehash to me despite the similiarities with the first. It still felt like it did enough that was different to stand out.

I've always wondered, story wise, was Louis (and I guess Janine) the only one that saw Smiler? We know that in the cartoon he was pretty much their pet, but in the movie did none the guys actually know he was there in the firehouse?

As a kid I figured they already knew about Slimer, or didn't care since he didn't seem to be hurting anything.

If The Real Ghostbusters cartoon is to be taken as canon then it clarifies as to why and how Slimer is hanging around.

I watched both of these again last week and as much as I enjoy the concept, the FX are REALLY dated..and some scenes (comedic timing, etc) are extremely cringe worthy.

Both are dated to some extent but I feel the 80sness is a big part of their charm.

This. Even in GB: The Videogame (which is arguably easier to accept as canon to the films) had the same reasons for Slimer hanging around the firehouse.

RGB and GBII do majorly contradict each other as continuations, though...

In the cartoon, they never went out of business after the first film and continued on for years, where as at the start of GBII, they haven't been active or fought any ghosts since their encounter with Gozer at the end of the first film.

Then again it was established in the cartoon that they are the REAL Ghostbusters and the Reitman film(s) are just film adaptions of themselves.

One of the best moment from the series...

Man: I'd like to welcome you to the studio.
Ray: Wow! This is really fantastic! It looks just like the real thing!
Man: That's why we wanted you here to advise us, make sure we're doing it right. After all, this is your life story.
Peter: No problem. As long as you got the right people to play us. Admit it, Redford was dying to play me, right?
Man: Not exactly. Here's the cast list.
Winston: Murray, Aykroyd and Ramis? What's that - a law firm?

Janine: (said in 5 seconds) Ghostbusters. No, they're not here. That's right. They all went to California to make a movie and I can't come with them so I can answer your crummy call.

Peter: (about Bill Murray) He doesn't look a thing like me.

:hehe:
