I am curious why Marvel is so against using Garfield and of his version? Garfield is a pretty big name actor and this way you avoid having to do another reboot. Also, nothing in the either the 2 movies was so out of whack that it wouldn't fit into the Marvelverse.

I do not follow Marvel comics....So if any fans out there want to correct me. I would be interested to hear it

They don't want any association with "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise. He's the lead role. /thread.

Clean slate.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love Andrew to stay... but Marvel obviously want to do their own version of Spidey.

Clean slate. Make the public understand there is no continuity to the Webb series.

I would hope there are no hard feelings and Marvel offers Garfield a role as a different character in the MCU. I wouldn't know who though. Richard Ryder?

I clicked on this thread thinking this was a joke thread about the orange cat. Never mind, carry on gentlemen.

Garfield is getting too old for the role. They want someone younger who can play Spidey for numerous films. Garfield would be close to 40 by the time this is all said and done. That was my big complaint when Garfield was first hired, they got a 28 year old to play a teenager, and now he's in his 30's. He's the same age as Hemsworth, it just wouldn't work.

Hire a teenager if you want a teenaged Spider-Man. He could theoretically play the character for over a decade.

No more of this "thirty-year-old playing a high school senior" silliness.

In all seriousness, if I was Kevin Feige my hamster wheel would be spinning in the direction of using Spider Man to make up for the inevitable loss of Iron Man in the Avengers franchise when RDJ gets too bored, too old and/or too expensive to reprise the role. Therefore, getting a new, younger actor as Spider Man is a tremendous value investment.

No he is not.

As for the topic, it's because Andrew is the face of the ASM franchise. The general public don't care about filmmakers, producers, or execs like we do. They associate success or failure by the actors. Garfield is the face of failure. They need to shelve him to make the public understand that this is a new franchise.

Thanks for the replies....I did not realize Andrew was that old. Then it makes sense to go with an actor 17-22.

Because they don't want that ****** TASM2 connected to the MCU.

I wonder if the reason Marvel did not want Garfield was because they have something else planned for him in the MCU.

I have a hard time believing that Marvel will hire a teenager for Spidey. It's pretty hard to find a teenage actor (who's right for the role) with the requisite chops. I'd bet it's another early twenty-something.

imho, they already have an actor locked up and ready to go.

I don't see a need for an actual teenager, a youngish twenty+ will do fine. Like Logan Lerman or Thomas Brodie-Sangster, frex.

I would not be surprised.

Zac Efron. I bet money on it. He was having talks with Marvel last year, i wouldn't be surprised if this was all in the pipeline back then. After seeing Neighbors, i could totally see him bantering back and forth with RDJ and eventually becoming the lead of the MCU.

If it's not him... feel free to throw eggs at me :)

As for why not Garfield? Whether it's his fault or not, the ASM series was a disappointment and he is the face of that series. It simply doesn't make business sense to continue with him now.

10 years after the smash hit "High school musical" Zac Efron is returning to high school!

No thanks.
