Homecoming Why does Marvel not want Garfield?

Garfield is not out because he's busy, Marvel and Sony obviously wanted to reboot and you don't keep the same lead actor when you reboot a film.

Garfield is the face of the failed ASM series. They had no choice but to replace him in order to differentiate the reboot from TASM. It is the same reason you didn't see Christopher Nolan bringing back George Clooney in Batman Begins or Zack Snyder bringing back Brandon Routh in Man of Steel.

Plus- lets be honest here- it's not like Garfield had universal -RDJ style- acclaim in the role. He recently got shot down in the polls here, losing to Tobey Maguire. They can do better.

Garfield's a great actor but I never connected with his Jim Stark-ish Peter Parker.

I'm really glad they appear to be going younger.

and he'll always be remembered for that...

Well said. It has nothing to do with "blaming" Garfield for the Amazing films, unfortunately he is just the face of the films.

I'm not sure. I think he could carve out a real nice career as a character actor. Ten years from now people may look at his Spider-Man experience the way most do about Clooney as Batman...

Garfield's super talented, his career is going to be fine in the long term.

And like Hulk movies, they wanted to make it clear the newer story is not connected to the older movie.

Because reboots don't recast the main actor from the previous franchise.

Garfield has a solid fanbase, at least he won't be as forgotten as Brandon Routh as Superman or as remembered badly as George Clooney as Batman.

Maybe they want a much younger Peter

Whenever I see this thread title it makes me think of this song:

[YT]uPudE8nDog0[/YT]

I wonder if Andrew Garfield has this playing on repeat on his iPod right now?

That's what they want you to think.

What are you talking about? She was a supporting character. She played M. M is and always has been a supporting character.

I really liked Andrew's version of Pete and Spidey. Sucks to see him go, but I guess like people mentioned here it's a worthy sacrifice.

I can't see Logan Lerman as Peter Parker though. I would prefer Dylan O Brien, he really sounds like Peter from USM game, and he's 23?

Well, according to Screenrant and Mashable, it wasn't just Marvel who didn't want Garfield, Sony no longer wanted him either. That's because, according to those leaked emails, Sony didn't take too kindly to Garfield publicly laying the blame for the poor reception towards The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on meddling from the studio.

Andrew Garfield said:
It’s interesting. I read a lot of the reactions from people and I had to stop because I could feel I was getting away from how I actually felt about it. For me, I read the script that Alex [Kurtzman] and Bob [Orci] wrote, and I genuinely loved it. There was this thread running through it. I think what happened was, through the pre-production, production, and post-production, when you have something that works as a whole, and then you start removing portions of it—because there was even more of it than was in the final cut, and everything was related. Once you start removing things and saying, “No, that doesn’t work,” then the thread is broken, and it’s hard to go with the flow of the story. Certain people at the studio had problems with certain parts of it, and ultimately the studio is the final say in those movies because they’re the tentpoles, so you have to answer to those people.

Secondly, Sony also wasn't too happy when Garfield apparently cancelled at the last minute his attending one of Sony's big dinner party.

Garfield also stood up Sony at a corporate dinner in July. Garfield's attendance was going to be mentioned by Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and he was supposed to sit with some top Sony executives. His absence (with less than an hour of notice) was seen as an affront and slight by the company's Tokyo bosses.
