I keep hearing people claim TLJ is one of those rare movies that get better and better each time you view it.

Why do you think it improves on repeat viewings?

Because they read the ticket upside down and went into Screen 6 and saw Paddington 2 by mistake second time round....

Having seen it twice, for me the second time was better for several reasons. Didn't have the opening night jitters and going into it wondering what all the crazy backlash was about to contend with, first of all.

Besides that, I was able to much better appreciate the Canto Bight/Finn and Rose subplot without that feeling of "But what about Luke and Rey!!" that kinda caused me to zone out a bit on my first viewing because it's almost too unfair of a disparity between how BIG one plot feels vs another. I was just able to go along for the ride more.

And obviously, as w any Star Wars film there's plenty of details and eye-candy to take in.

It didn't for me, hated it just as much the second time.

Because no movie will EVER live up to the one that you've been building up in your head for 2 years. So when you see it, you "hate it" because it's not as good as the one you would have made.

But then when you know what to expect, you realize that it's actually a fantastic movie that isn't without flaws, but doesn't deserve nearly as much hate as it has been getting.

Expectations were subverted in nearly every big scene, and I love that. Yes, the Canto Bight stuff was fairly lame, no question. But the theme of the movie was basically to say, "out with the old, in with the new." People b*tched and moaned about how The Force Awakens was too similar to A New Hope. Then Rian Johnson comes along and makes things different, but apparently that's no good either.

It didn't get better for me. Because I loved it the first time.

I think a part of it is that with TLJ's parallels to ESB, both in story and cinematography, we expect a movie like ESB in tone, so on first watch, there's a part of my brain telling me it's wrong. If TLJ was the first or third movie, I don't think this comedy issue would be as big. All of a sudden I think people would welcome the porgs and and the zaniness of the casino scene.

I loved it the first time and hope it holds up when I see it again. Chances are good it will for me. I adored my first viewing, flaws and all.

No offense, but that's an assumption if I ever saw one. I hated those elements of TLJ (among others). The flick's a tonal jigsaw puzzle.

I don't know the answer to this question yet. I very much hope to soon.

I don't know was going to see it a 2nd time tonight but things came up. I am hoping it will go up has I thought it had a real shot at being my favorite star wars movie but right now its like 4th and a big reason its not higher is that the first half of the movie felt really slow to me. I am hoping when I see it again that the first half wont fell so slow and will flow and fell better has right now I fell like TFA had much better pacing.

I enjoyed it more the second time partially because I knew what to expect and I saw it in a much bigger theater than the first time. It was also fun looking out for the easter eggs that I missed the first time.

Would I rank it above the original trilogy? No, but now I'm having a hard time deciding whether I liked it better than The Force Awakens, which, unlike The Last Jedi, starts to show more flaws with repeat viewings. I'd still call TFA the more enjoyable film to watch because it's better paced but TLJ feels fresher. So maybe that puts them on even ground?

I don't think folks liked it more with extra viewings.

Because it is a movie that's actually about something, and nearly every scene is some variation on that something. Movies like that are always better on 2nd viewing. The first viewing is all about the narrative, the 2nd, not to sound like a high school teacher but, the themes and the meaning. It's rewarding.

Some has to do with things missed in the first viewing. Subtle things that tie into things that happen later in the film. Overall it's a good movie with some flaws (Canto), but if you don't like decisions, questions going unanswered or the answers to some, or directions of characters it's easy to turn on it.

A 2nd viewing after giving myself a couple of days to vent after initially being angry help me go into acceptance mode going into my second viewing knowing this is where we are. Also it helped knowing what was coming and not feeling that initial pit of anger or let down over stuff in the film.

A movie shouldn't need a 2nd or 3rd viewing to win you over but in this case I do think it helps. Does it change that I disagree with decisions, answers, or directions? Nope. It does help if you loved TFA like I did knowing JJ is doing 9 and if there are things and liberties Rian took that could be changed in 9 if they don't fit where JJ seen the characters going or things that went unanswered they could be answered in 9 and loose ends tied up, it helps.

After coming in knowing what I was getting into I was able to enjoy the humor and let the decisions in some places impact me more. I was able to enjoy it much more the 2nd or 3rd time around. Also I kinda of took this approach to not look at it as a sequel so much more than a stand alone because it kinda felt that way with the way Rian directed it by disregarding a lot of what happened in 7 or just completely ignoring it to make his film.

That's exactly the experience I had with Drive though. The first viewing was all about just getting a handle on it, and I didn't really even manage that, but it prepared me for the 2nd viewing. I gave it a couple of months, I watched it again, and bam! Masterpiece. I've seen it like 7 times since.

I also as a teen strongly disliked 2001: A Space Odyssey. Then I watched it again. And again. And again. And again. And then, again. And it clicked. Masterpiece.

I haven't seen TLJ for second time yet (seeing it again tomorrow), but sometimes when I see a movie for the first time I'm expecting one thing, and then when that movie is different than I expect, l might not appreciate said movie for what it is. This was the case for me with Thor: Ragnorak. I liked it better the second time because I was no longer judging it based on my preconceived notions.

Having seen it twice, for me the second time was better for several reasons. Didn't have the opening night jitters and going into it wondering what all the crazy backlash was about to contend with, first of all.

It was the other way around for me. The opening night jitters made me more favorable toward the movie. The second time around the flaws were only more apparent.

Hopefully this is true. I see it again tomorrow early.

I like it more and more as I think about it. I really think everyone just got their expectations through the roof (I know I did) and it didn't go in the route we expected because we spent so much time hyping. I liked it right away minus a few issues, but now I'm just dying to see it again.

I've seen it 3 times now....loved it every time.
