Why don't people bash Lyndon B.Johnson more?

I didn't miss it. I explained it. Johnson achieved more on a domestic front than anyone since FDR and anyone after him. Nixon isn't hated because of 'Nam so much, as he is because of Watergate and the fallout from that (fairly or unfairly).
Then that raises a second question, why don't we ever hear Johnson's accomplishments talked about?

I mean, Martin Luther King or even Bobby Kennedy gets tons of publicity still for their efforts, but I don't think I've ever once heard big media say one word about Johnson's social policies.

We do. All the time. I don't know where you get this from. RFK and MLK get talked about because they're martyrs of course, but I've never noticed the media shying away from LBJ. I mean, I can't really expand upon that except to say I disagree with your assertion the media doesn't cover LBJ enough (as much as they could cover a President who's been out of office for almost half a century).

Same reason you (as in, anyone, not specifically you) don't know the name of any abolitionists. Doing good doesn't get you a lot of credit.

That's it! I'm blaming everything on Lyndon Johnson from now on!!!!

The only US President worth mentioning is George Washington. **** all the rest.

I think it's a case it's hard to knock LBJ negatively because he was the guy who passed the Civil Rights act and Medicare, but it's hard talking about him positively because well he was at fault for Vietnam. Both things sort of wash eachother out so you don't talk about him one way or another. Sort of the elephant in the room. I am guessing if we didn't go to Vietnam LBJ would be a Democrat icon to the degree of FDR

Yeah, that Abraham Lincoln.... what a bum. :whatever: Thanks for that insightful contribution.

Lincoln turned the South into Democrats and LBJ turned them Republicans. lol

The only thing that makes Lincoln considered one of the best presidents compared to one of the worst is the North won(as the saying goes the victors get to write history).

Yeah. That's all he did. :whatever:

The "only thing that makes Washington considered one of the best Presidents compared to one of the worst is America won its war of independence." The "only thing that makes FDR considered one of the best Presidents compared to one of the worst is America won World War II." See how dumb this game is? You make it sound like prosecuting a war successfully is a walk in the park or a silly game of chance. And if ever there was a just cause, it was freeing an entire people of bondage and keeping the Union together.

Lincoln helped end slavery, the most shameful chapter in America's history, and kept the Union together at its most fragile moment before he was assassinated.

I can't believe his greatness is even up for debate.

To be fair to Lincoln, he had to put up with a lot of crazy crap.

He didn't (contrary to what Southerners might say) start the Civil War. Which I would argue was inevitable. Ending slavery was going to take a war. Plus you had the culmination of centuries of animosity between the South and North.

His presidency was going to suck. Nothing he could do about it.

I am not saying Lincoln was a bad president, I am just saying some may not have such a rosey view of him. There is a reason the South didn't back the Republicans basically for 100 years, and there is a reason why they flocked over to them 40+ years ago

General rule of thumb I have for political history is the South is generally on the wrong side of everything(although for the sake of argument I do think the Civil war was more then just about slavery(infact slavery was a side issue), I think the people who rewrite history make it all about slavery to prop up Lincoln a bit more)

By "some" do you mean the idiots who wear 'The South Will Rise Again!' shirts (or occasionally white hoods) and lament the fact they don't have free labor anymore because of what they call the War of Northern Aggression? Yeah, I can't say I care much what they think.

Yeah basically some that live below the 38° latitude(although above the 30° and east of 95° longitude) lol

On a sidenote about Lincoln, I always get a chuckle when the current Republican party tries to take claim for what Lincoln did as part of their history(when trying to go after black voters). Using that logic maybe we can say the Democrats are the true party of reducing the deficit and going after the banks because the Democrat party was founded by Andrew Jackson(he nearly reduced it to nothing during his terms).
