Superman Returns Why Don't Some Superman Fans Like Superman Returns?

Thank you. How can any of these guys like Superman wearing Little Maron Panties. I mean that is the biggest of all travesties of the film. It's Superman, lets put women cut, victoria secret cut maroon panties on him. If anything says "most powerful man in the universe", that is it. And lets make him skinneier based on a survey amongst non superhero fan women. I mean they know Superman best. I mean nothing says Superman like this

as opposed to this

or this

I mean, this is Superman we are talkinb about here:

One has a muscle suit, and one has real muscles.
I like how you compared a picture of Routh off-camera to a screenshot from the movie and a promotional image.

What? I thought you might like this one! Come on, it's the "good" blue, the "perfect" red, and the symbol is bigger. What is wrong with this one ?
too bright... I don't want a color copy of the Donner suit.

I'd rather see this

What ?! Come on ; it is almost the same! And your choice is evne more Donner than the previous one!
On this one the boots look like Donner the neck looks like Donner and the rest is the same. I don't see any difference of brightness between the 2. Maybe the cape and it's the last pic (the one you like) that have a brighter cape.
Furthermore, if there exists a slight difference between the 2 reds, I accept it gladly. I think you go too far. Yet you appreciate different design in another thread ..... I do not understand at all.

I completely disagree... if you compare the manip to the actual colors of the Donner suit, you'll find that the manip is darker.

I chose those images as they are in the same pose. And the suit looks the same in the final film as it does in that screen cap, well minus the damn color timing they did. The point is, that is an accurate representation of both suits in the same pose.

The thing is, in that same position, it shows all the problem the suit has. The size of the S. The neckline and the cape attachment. The lowcut trunks which make the waistline look all wrong. It shows just how far it deviates from the iconic suit.

The Donner suit would look RIDICULOUS in a modern movie. I hope you all realize this.

No. I don't realize it. And so do most comic book fans and superman fans. I didn't say the exact donner suit. One with new materials that made it look more like a 1 piece (notn batmanish) rubber material like suit would have rocked. We could have had the ultimate suit this time around.

Why do you say that the Donner suit updated with new materials ( hate calling it the Donner suit. It is just the classic suit faithfully translated to real life from exactly how it looks in the comics) Any way, why would you day that the Classic suit, as faithfull reproduced by Donner for his films, would look rediculous in a modern movie? I want to know how the universally recognized suit would do bad when a suit that had womens cut, maroon underwear making him look like he has a beer gut, a small stupid 3D shield, and every thing which makes Routh's Superman look like the lost Villiage People Superman not work? I just don't see how the iconic, been that way since 1942 and still going wouldn't work where a feminized Superman suit with female styled designs work for you on A MAN? Please tell me how all these feminized aspects that you find on women's clothing put on A MAN (not just a man, but Superman) are so superior for today's audience? (I always love asking this question because some stupid nonsense about advances in material's usually comes up, when no one cares about that stuff)

Oh, and I hope you know that that suit divided superhero fans universally, and it screed the franchise.

I didn't say that the Donner suit updated with new materials would look ridiculous -- I said the Donner suit would look ridiculous. That exact outfit looks like something from a 1970s costume shop.

The fact of the matter is that the suit needed to be updated and the majority of the complaints people have are ridiculous. Look at the Batman movies. You don't hear Batman fans whining about how the suit is all black instead of blue and grey, and rubber instead of tights. Why? They realize that in order for it to look good on the big screen there need to be changes.

Could the suit have been lighter? Sure, but its not like being a darker red ruins Superman.

I don't get your beef with the briefs. They don't look like any womens panties I've ever seen.

It's just nitpicking.

And the changes they made were un-necessary and copletely feminized the character. The S belt reminiscent of the Guci belt. Shower curtain/fruit roll up cape. It made him look the banned word. There was such fighting over it here and other sites that we were permantly banned from using the G word and have to use the banned word to say the G word.

And no one ever said the exact Donner suit. Hell, they can't even get them for an insert shot in Donner's version of Supes 2. I am saying the same design but with newer material and no seams.

Yes. It was permanently banned her during the "suit wars" That is how the banned word came about. In fact, if you look all over the web for posts when the suit was released, that was the biggest word that people used to describe it.

it wasn't just the shade of the red... it was everything about the suit that made it look depressing. Even the blue at times wasn't even blue anymore... it was cyan.

Other than the fact that it's a dude in tights, I don't see what is so gay about it. It's way less gay than say... Daredevil's costume. Affleck looked like "Catwoman made over by Revlon." :D

it's about how masculine... or non-masculine in this sense... the suit made him look.

Really though...isn't it splitting hairs when it comes to a guy wearing a pair of red briefs over full-body blue tights?

when it comes to the most iconic superhero of all time...

no it's not.

The difference is one that people already instinctively know, weather they are comic book fans or not. They just know how his suit is supposed to look like. The things that they did was add female clothing elements. Panty cut shorts meant to be on women. Gucci belt. They made the S small due to wanting it in 3D, which is dumb. Because of the muscle suit, they had to make the neck line higher. Because of that, the cape goes in worng. Instead of it flowing over the shoulders like a king, it just looks stuffed and stupid. And if you look at both pictures of Routh in his suit, and Reeve in his suit, you can see where one just makes him the character and one makes him look like a real cheap knock-off. That stupid small shield really does a disservice. I mean it just looks glued on and insignificant.

I don't think the word is offensive but the way you people use it as inherently derogatory.

Well the mods do. They allow us to use "the banned word" but we can't use the "G" word.

I think Diesmiling is just trying to stir things up. The Returns suit is awful. The many flaws have been pointed out many times by many people. It looks drab, weak, and effeminate. It is an unnecessary departure from a classic, dynamic costume that has endured for generations.

Buggs and Smallville08,

They don't allow "the banned word" as a substitute. It's something Buggs came up with because he doesn't know how to put together an argument without resorting to the lowest common verse when talking about the suit.... the words "that's gay, that's so gay!!" themselves are childish, stupid and deragatory to begin with. It's that ridiculous mindset that makes so many shake their heads in disgust. I'll say this, simply put, you're an IDIOT if you think it's okay to demean someone or something by using different words instead of the lowest common denominator (' that's so gay') itself. Why would you think that's okay? And I love how Buggs attempts to justify it. No wonder half the Superman boards can't stand his posts..,.

unfortunately all the concerned voices fell into a deaf's ear.
