Superman Returns Why Don't Some Superman Fans Like Superman Returns?

both, but my main problem with SR was always the lack of color... so I'm more looking for vibrancy in color

A colorful SR? It doesn't seem right. Even two years later, the feel of the movie is dull. Plus, the props and stuff looked dated (or deliberately dated). Making the movie more vibrant seems strange. The tone matched the feel. It's funny because two years later, I'm a little more objective. Yet, I still think it's a depressing flick, so the color matches for me. When I catch the movie on cable here and there, the color is like a big flag saying don't watch me.

WOW...I just went there and you're not kidding. I'm downloading now. I'm interested to see how a different version of SR would have played. I doubt it will make me like the movie any more, but this has definitely sparked my interest.

Have you been able to see any of them yet?

*shakes head* The file is a monster and there are hardly any seeds online. It's going to take a while unless a lot of fellow Hypesters seed that dang movie :woot:

I'll let you know, but it's not looking to pretty right now.

I was having trouble downloading them too. Was hoping someone else with a better computer could download and burn it to DVD....then I'd just buy it from them.

He tried to explain things to her, that's why he went up there to the rooftop in the first place, but she was too bitter at him, and when he saw that he wasn't getting through her, that's when he thought of taking Lois for a flight up in the sky to show her what it really means to be Superman, to be so powerful that he can hear everything, and the huge responsibility that that brings. After that little exchange, her attitude towards him changed; she began to realize that being Superman was something bigger than she could ever imagined. He elevated her to his level. When he says 'you wrote that the world doesn't need a savior, but every day I hear people crying out for one,' if you look at her face, she is almost to the point of crying, she is overwhelmed; she is in the presence of a merciful god. I'm sure that he would have told her more things and given her more details on his trip and why he left that way during the rooftop scenes, but she didn't really allow it in the first place. At least that's how I see it.

True, she never really gave him a chance to explain, so he had to show her, i get the scene totally, but for the GA, a little more dialogue may have helped explain things a little more, since the RTK scene was cut.

I know what you mean about when he takes her up into the sky though, she sees the burden he carries, and how it weighs on him, and she realises he has other things to attend to in this universe than herself, yet he is still there with her apologising to her for a mistake he knows he made.

Its possibly my favourite part in the movie, and what has got to be a SERIOUS contender for best line in a comic book movie.

Why would Lois Lane need reminding of the fact that he's Superman?

Anyway, the way that scene played to me was he went there to talk to her. She is pissy with him. So, he scoops her up and takes her on a flight. Problem solved because when they get back to the roof they almost kiss. Viola...she's no longer pissy. Also, one problem with the whole merciful God thing is it seems sort of clear that Superman and Lois were having a relationship (even though she doesn't know he's Clark:whatever:). She says something to the effect of he left her, though she corrects herself. That's a pretty personal take, and the way the scene played to me was like two old lovers trying to reconcile what they feel for each other...because one of the two did the other wrong.

Thats not what MP was stating, she said that in this scene, Lois finally learns what its like to be Superman, the burden he carries, imagine hearing everyday so many people in the world crying out for a saviour (I have heard it from people close to me, and its NOT a nice thing), and not having the power to help a lot of them? Think of how many people cry themselves to sleep at night praying to whatever God they worship for help and salvation, Superman hears this, all day and every day.

Lois finally realised this in this scene, that is what MP was saying.

Phew...it's almost done. lol...I've never ripped a DVD though I have the capability. Maybe someone could help with that.

Anyway, once it's finished loading I'm going to watch it.

I can appreciate that, but the message was lost for me because it was mixed up with him "basically" (I guess) trying to apologize to her for doing a really ****ty thing by leaving without a goodbye. That overpowered everything in that scene for me.

Are people still upset about the whole "leaving without saying goodbye" thread in the film?

I didn't really think that was a hard thing to understand...the reasons as to why he didn't say goodbye. It's totally understandable and relatable...

did any one see the article over at screen rant that singer offered superman role in sr to will smith before he went with routh. Man if that happened what the heck was singer thinking. I dont know if people were talking about this here.

No one is upset, but it's a fact of the film that seems very un-supermanish. It sticks in people's minds. Two years ago I was upset...now I'm just kind of 'la' with it.

IT was bad from the start! bad casting, bad suit, bad lois, bad perry white, just plain old bad!!

spacy was terrible, his henchmen were a joke!!

the airplane/shuttle scene was great, supes saving metropolis was good to.the good doesnt outway the awful

I liked the movie. I thought it was done well. There are obviously some things that could have been improved on though.

I dont see the problem, he realised he made a big mistake, this is evident in the movie, and he apologises for it, both of them come to a realisation in this scene (though Superman also realises earlier that he made a big mistake), Superman was just trying to make Lois realise what his life is like. I think she also realises in this movie that of all the women in the world, Superman loves her.

I totally agree, and its not like Superman doesnt realise in the movie he was wrong, he not only apologises, but when put in another situation were he thinks hes 'leaving her' for a very long time again, he makes sure he doesnt make the same mistake again.

God I see that AvietwithJamon and most powerful are still here posting in every thread constantly defending the film. Don't you guys have lives? At least I go away on work and vacation. You guys are like permanent fixtures here who have to post in every thread. Do you guys have jobs? I mean Venom was here 24/7 because he had nothing better to do due to his condition. But I mean, is this the sum of your lives? To defend a mediocre film that just got it's butt handed again by the superhero films that came out this year. Hell, SR is even being called a failure in a few of the Dark Knight reviews from real film reviewers. I am serious. Is this all you guys do? I can't go into one thread on the SR, or it's sequel, boards here and not see you guys posting at least once a day in every thread. And you guys usually post more than once a day. I mean anyone says anything bad, and you are posting all day long. Anyone says good and you are posting all day long. I mean I go away for long periods of time. But, it just seems weird that you guys are so obsessed with defending this film day in and day out in EVERY thread. Seriously. I am genuinely curious. I mean this is all you guys seem to do. I am not trying to pick on you guys, but do you do anything else?

In the movies....they were intimate once....then the experience was wiped from her memory and Superman didn't sleep with her again.
But Singer denounces the stupid "Kiss of forgetfullness" and so I do not think it is in the film. I mean he went out of his way to goof on it in promoting the film. And Lois clearly knows the kid is Supes. She is just plain hiding it. And I really and truly with this "vague sequel" don't even know if the writers and Signer knows what is going on. The writers said that this is Superman 3, and Singer says it isn't.

SR is a great film and one of my favorite movies period. But, it was missing something. In my humble opinion it was missing that that tough vilian who would fight Superman. I mean throw punch's and fight. Something not done in a Superman film yet.

I don't think violence is always the answer or a good thing. However, in my life there have been 5 Superman films and not one has had a knock-down-drag out fight. The Superman movie should take a cue from "The Dark Knight."

After seeing IM, TIH, and TDK this year, I am further convinced that SR....for me....was the single biggest disappointment in the current generation of superhero/cb films ( starting with X1 ).

Why was it the biggest disappointment?

Because Singer was given the OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME!!! The chance to direct the pinnacle of superheros ( Superman ).....the chance to restart a franchise that's been dormant for almost 20 years.....the chance to bring us something new....something fresh....something spectacular and never before seen in a Superman movie.....

And, what did we get.......

A 2 and 1/2 hour borefest that achieved nothing and brought nothing really new to the table......

The more good and excellent CB movies I see.....the more I hate SR........

SR really.....really.....really......SUCKED!!!

Wow, how do you really feel? I agree in some respect but it is still one of my favorite movies. I didnt think it was boring and the action scenes were amazing. In regards to a the villian, any Superman movie would have to start with Lex Luthor as a villian. If Luthor was substituted with Zod, Darseid or whoever else, fans would complain on this board. If they brought in another villian to try to fit him into the story along with Luthor it would have ended up like Spiderman III with too much going on.
I thought it was a great building block for hopefully another movie where ig Blue get to flex a little more.

I thought Incredible Hulk & Iron Man were good but I like Superman better.
Dark Knight was just simply genius. Probably one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Well, TIH showed us that punches and super-villiains don't always work as magic.

I've told you many times to stop this foolishness. That just got you 3 months probation. The next time...you are perma banned.

Bleak production design - Everything looked so dull and dark including the costume that it was depressing to watch in a Superman film. This is metropolis not gotham.

Inconsistency - So kryptonite made him weak to the point he was whupped like an abused dog by Lex and co. but then he manages to lift up an island with a lot of kryptonite in it's minerals while having a small shard of kryptonite inside his body. Solar recharge or no solar recharge gimme a break.

Characterization - Lois as a bitter baby momma? Superman abandoning his role as protector out of selfishness? Lex Luthor coming up with a non sensical scheme? what is this?!?

Those were the biggest problems to me I only liked some of the homages to the previous movies and comics but everything it brought new to the table was just awkward. This movie fell short of what it could've been.
