Superman Returns Why Don't Some Superman Fans Like Superman Returns?

In YOUR opinion.

In MY opinion, SR is a beautiful, epic, enthralling, mythic, compelling, poetic and classic Superman film. Maybe you just couldn't get it? But is ok, not all of people have the same tastes when it comes to art, and SR is high art. And please leave the insults and condescending out of here, it only takes away from your credibility and quality as a poster.

Ooooh, but I almost forget.....this is the internet...

Saying SR is high art and then saying those who disagree with you are not intelligent enough to “get it” and then telling other posters to leave there “insults and condescending out” seems very hypocritical IMO. Why it is everyone like to dish it out but no ones seems to be able to take it?

So if someone insults you you cant insult them back now? She was just givinh him a taste of his own medicine.

Crap and lack of action scenes.

Lack of sense of gigantic huge epic wonder that should be assc with Superman - space, epic huge visuals... SR didn't have too many good ones

Relatively **** CG - I wanted the flying scenes to break new ground but they looked ordinary and not very good at all... what happened to those football field sized rigs... all made up crap

Edited out sequences key to the film - Return to Krypton... he's been gone for 5 years, it'd be nice to show exactly where the **** he was the whole time

Lex Luthor - please leave Donner/Hackman stuff where it's meanto be... the 70s... Luthor should NOT BE SOME LAND GRUBBING SCHEMER dammit... he's meant to be a genius with a business mind... Weapons of unlimited power with those crystals... why the **** did he not use them to challenge Superman... would've made for kick ass action scenes... no, instead we get Superman shived like a rat and all he did was catch Lex's boot.

The son of Superman - the most idiotic idea out there... it's about his return... the placement of his son totally shifts focus away from Clark and Superman and then we have wasted idiotic piano sequences thrown in... so many logic gaps in the film in general too. If they wanted to have the son idea, reveal it in the second or third film... make this film about SUPERMAN dammit... not his friggin son out of being a deadbeat

No freshness in the take - it was like a carbon copy of the first Superman film and had a hard on for donner.... we needed a respectful tot he old film but NEW FRESH look to the film which it didn't have.

I can go on... it wasn't a bad film, it was just such a hugely disappointing film... i'd rather watch a bad film cuz at least i can at laugh at it... SR was just such a gigantic boring soap opera...

yes but don't leave it on the cutting room floor... show it... show what's left of Krypton... show what it's like to many viewers who haven't seen the original Superman film.

Most viewers will know krypton but there are tons of people who haven't seen the old film, it would've been nice to see exactly what the **** he found... what he explored... it was very poor to just leave that whole sequence out so my statement stands fine... ;)

My sentiments exactely.

This i will totally agree with, the RTK sequence SHOULD have stayed, this has been clear since the movie was released. It led people to question a lot of what happened in the movie, and would have added a more sci-fi, epic, and emotional weight to the story. It should not have been cut, period.

I still say he should have found that Krypton was pretty much gone, and got captured by Mongol and forced to fight in gladiatorial games on War World instead of what they did. But hey, that's just me.

^Personally, I think that would have been a bit much for a first movie, but in sequels I would have loved to see it.

Well technically, it wasn't the first movie. Singer wanted to continue with Donner's stuff, he shoulda started here, then maybe that whole SR thing would have flown.

I'll give you this: yes, it is necessary to have seen the previous movies.

But almost every movie has deleted scenes. They're left out for a reason. I feel more like Francis Coppola should have included the "Apocalypse Now" deleted scenes than Bryan Singer with the 10 minutes Krypton sequence.

A scene doesn't have to be included merely because of existing already. Spielberg once pointed out how the ending of the first Indiana Jones movie imrpoved strongly once than George Lucas cut 2 minutes out of it. 10 minutes of irrelevant footage might hurt seriously a film.

I haven't seen the footage but the fact that Krypton is there doesn't convince me it was better to have it in the movie.

Enough of Krypton was shown at the beginning and in STM for the role that planet has in SR's story.

Me too. I wouldn't mind maybe seeing Mongul onscreen. And hopefully have Superman say "burn" & he zap him, but not kill him, with his heat vision. :cmad:

Agreed, one day, I DO want to see that in a Superman movie, but not in the first one of a franchise.

They couldnt have just jumped into a Warworld movie after following a movie from 20-odd years ago, it would have been even more of a WTF situation for the audience, some people were confused by just SR, anything more would have just been too much.

Metallo or another, smaller scale villain, would have been perfect along with Lex.

^Exactly, I could name numerous novels I have read that depict the character with religious allegories and symbolism.

Not for me. I Wanna see it some day; I heard that it's BEAUTIFUL stuff, but I don't think it was really necessary for the story to make sense. The movie was about Superman returning to Earth, not about where he went.

Yeah

Becuase It was not superman it was Super Jesus.

Yeah, Superman is not supposed to be Jesus, just to behave like him...

For once we disagree, I have firmly believed from the start that the RTK sequence SHOULD have been in the final movie, just to give the story a bit more scope.

Agreed.

This coming from a Superman basher. I thought there wasn't much display of his fighting ability. I know I shouldn't base my opinion on that, but he could've at least thrown a punch.

^So the movie is crap because he doesnt throw a punch? What made the likes of TDK, X2, Spiderman 2 etc great? That punches were thrown in them?

Sorry to have a go but I just think that is a poor reason to dislike the movie.

I'm not sayin' that made the movie crap I'm just saying I would perfer the movie have that in it. Superman was only interesting IMO when he went all out on something, and in Returns there was nothing he could really find a challenge in.
