Why is this movie disliked?

Despite its weaknesses, I enjoyed it. It misinterpreted Doom and Sue, but the other characters came out intact. Especially Johnny and Ben, who were so spot on that it compensated for many of the film's flaws.

They have alot to fix up for the second movie, and I think and hope that they will.

How? How when they stuffed up the first one so bad? You can't make a film on the premise that "Hey! Don't worry! The second one will be alot better! Promise!".

I wonder how it would make Story feel if he knew even his biggest supporters are just hoping and hoping he can do a better job in the second film?

Exactly. People love to make excuses for this movie's shortcomings by pointing to it being an origin. That only goes so far as it has nothing to do with the mostly crap execution that we got. The First Family deserved way better than some generic, popcorn flick.

MovieDoom was horrible. It wasn't even really McMahon's fault. They gave him total crap to work with. Then Story pops off for the sequel saying "Oh, we'll have full Doom this time". :whatever: Has he bothered to explain exactly what was the problem with giving that radical concept a try for the first movie? I'm hopeful, but highly skeptical about that messge coming to fruition. How do you go from a cardboard, bland, spoiled, petulant rich boy into something actually befitting one of the most dynamic villains in all of comicdom? I'd love to see it happen, but I won't be banking on it.

Mister J, regardless of your opinions on the movie, I must salute you for your fine taste in college football. Hail to the Victors (no pun intended)!

The people I know, aren't on the internet, they enjoyed the hell outta of the movie. So all they are going to tell Story is, give us another good time. Apparently theres a few of those out there.:cwink:

F4 was pretty good IMHO.I'm not a big fan of em' ,so just from a movie perspective,it was good, not great for me.I am pretty interested in the sequel though.

When I first saw F4 at the cinema, I was not at all impressed. But it was on TV the other night, so I thought I'd give it another chance to make the big-time. :cwink:

Anyway, to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it! I find certain parts highly amusing - especially The Thing.

"Couple of days in space, it'll be great - What's the worst that could happen?" :woot:

"You think you got problem, you take a good a look, pal." :woot:

Brilliant lines, which made me laugh. I also enjoy Johnny making fun of him.

"Where are your ears?"

"You think that's funny, pebbles?" :woot:

All in all, it is a very entertaining movie, which doesn't get the credit is deserves. I've actually gone and bought the DVD. I'm officially a fan!

I didn't see it as mindless or dull; I thought it was a lot of fun. I basically got no more or less out of it than I expected. I liked the dynamic between the FF members, & that's what I wanted to see. A dysfunctional family/superhero team.

It was EXTREMELY mindless. And fun does not = quality. That's the only thing I hear people that liked that POS say...really! "It was...uh...FUN, yeah, thats it!" They can never actually justify the fact that they like it.

Its hard to say what was wrong with the movie because just about every aspect was. Terrible casting, especially Jessica Alba, and that Ioan Guffold guy or however the hell you spell his name. He was so dead and dull in the role I felt like I was going to be induced into a coma everytime he appeared on screen. Jessica was nothing more than the T&A to get the horny prepubs into the theaters, and it worked apparently. Her acting doesn't improve with roles like most actors...she stays static because she is only hired for her looks.

And Doom...my god, what did they do to Doom. No valid comic book fan can possibly forgive them for how badly they butchered a terrific villain. His costume, his attitude, his powers...all terrible. He was laughable, and that's something someone like Doom should NEVER be. Oh, do I feel for Galactus. Poor omniscient being.

And the story. Talk about a story that chugs and drags along without any spirit or original vision. Tim Story is a mediocre director, and the sooner they fire him, ditch most of the cast and crew, and start anew with someone that is not merely interested in making a mindless popcorn movie, the better we all will be.

And the dialogue. Pathetic and cliched, not to mention predictable. "Let's not fight!" "Noo...LET'S!" Baaaaaaaaad.

Just about spot on! Well done for saying what I was too lazy to do.

Thanks for your opinion.

Elaborate.
The Fantastic Four have always been epic characters with huge, epic adventures. They are supposed to be larger than life.

The film however was basically a bunch of scenes about having powers, and then a street brawl at the end. Hardly epic.

Hmmmmm, not much meat there, maybe alittle salt, but not much else.

That's actually a perfect description of the movie, what you just posted right there.

Now even in that, doesn't really answer the question why is the movie disliked?

You could ask that question about every movie out there today. There is not a movie, nor will there ever be a movie that is loved, or even liked by all.

But, there are reasons why people hope for a better movie the next time around.

Was never into F4 so didn't bother to watch it in the theatres.

Saw it on TV a couple weeks back and sadly, I enjoyed it 10x more than Superman Returns.

Some of the one-liners were cornier than anything made by Orville Redenbacher - but overall, the movie was enjoyable and didn't drag. One thing that bothered me was the voice they used for Doom after he got the mask - I was hoping for more of a grindy Jigsaw (from the Saw films) type of voice. I guess the way he got owned at the end, they can play with modifying his voice for the sequel.

Sure fun & entertaining may not equal quality - however I'd take a fun & entertaining film over a supposedly "quality" film like Superman Returns (which I became restless wishing it would end, but kept dragging on..) any day.

Ya know I think you probably described what many think. Although, I enjoyed Superman Returns very much, enough to go and see it again at the IMAX, I think how you looked at F4 was true of quite a few.

Honestly, I don't think as many people disliked Fantastic Four, as so many fanboys wished they did.

Bottomline is it made enough money for a sequel. So I just hope they work on the things they missed the last time. So far, the changes I see being made seem to be moving in the positive direction, so I'm cool so far.:yay:

Yeah but the same people who like it also probably like Triple x, fast and the feriouse, white chicks and little man.

I doubt that.

I dunno man..it's about as good as those four movies (which is not very) and the masses love to eat up crap with a spoon so....

What's wrong with Fast and the Feriouse? I heard Fast and the Feriouse was pretty good. I was thinking of buying the DVD of Fast and the Feriouse next time I'm at...

Oh.
Fast and the Furious.
Well, that's very different.

Why is the movie disliked?
1. Poor writing. The dialogue is as cheesy as hell.
2. Poor direction. The director's vision and respect for the ff is so mediocre and low. He thought that the ff is all fun and jokes.

Any one who loves and appreciates good movies would know that this is not one of em'. I expect better from the sequel.
