I didn't exactly like the Ghost Rider movie, but one positive thing I saw in it was Sam Elliot as the previous Ghost Rider, Carter Slade. I thought the old west style Ghost Rider was both interesting and visually appealing. So I wanted to gauge the enthusiasm for a prequel involving Sam Elliot reprising his role as Carter Slade. Of course, I don't want to knock Nicholas Cage because I think he did an excellent job, but I just liked the other Ghost Rider better.

What does everyone think?

I think a prequal with Carter Slade would be VERY Cool.

Nah, I wouldn't go for it. There isn't much behind Carter Slade compared to Johnny Blaze b/c he has no ties to Mephisto or The Blood. He's just a vigilante in a spooky costume.

I think he's referring to the movie old west ghost rider who did have ties to Mephisto

There's only one problem: that character was totally made up. He never existed in the comics :whatever:

I think you might want to do some homework before posting such a "fact."

So, there you go.

Carter Slade was the name of the original "Horse Rider," who was actually the first Ghost Rider.

That's him on the cover of Ghost Rider #1 (The Original Ghost Rider that is)
yer half right there MM. Slade was the 1st Marvel character to be named Ghost Rider but he doesnt hav any actual ties to the spirit of vegeance GRs. the guy who created the Blaze rider took the name cause he thought it was too cool to let go to waste.

i THINK, though that there was an issue where Blaze went back in time n teamed up with the Slade rider or in Blaze's present time he teamed up with the then Phantom rider. if my memory is right about an issue of either of those things happening, it was only prob just cause they figured itd be cool to have the Phantom rider n GR team up.

the whole confusion about carter slade is all of MSJ's fault. if he never had put slade in the movie ppl wouldnt be thinking he has any actual connection in the comics to GR. also, Slade/Phantom Rider wouldnt be an alternate costume for GR in the marvel ultimate alliance game. BAHS is all i have to say.

the idea of combining slade n caretaker was prob the only good idea MSJ had. n even with that, hes just caused so much confusion for ppl that are new to GR.

What crazy sock said. The movie version never existed. He was just a human being wearing a white costume atop an albino horse. Not to mention, the Caretaker and Carter Slade were two completely separate people.

i think a 1800's ghost rider movie would be good

this is from the wiki page for johnny blaze.
- Behind the scenes

Thomas, Marvel's editor-in-chief at the time, described the character's genesis:

"I had made up a character as a villain in Daredevil — a very lackluster character — called Stunt-Master... a motorcyclist. Anyway, when Gary Friedrich started writing Daredevil, he said, "Instead of Stunt-Master, I'd like to make the villain a really weird motorcycle-riding character called Ghost Rider." He didn't describe him. I said, "Yeah, Gary, there's only one thing wrong with it," and he kind of looked at me weird, because we were old friends from Missouri, and I said, "That's too good an idea to be just a villain in Daredevil. He should start out right away in his own book." When Gary wasn't there the day we were going to design it, Mike Ploog, who was going to be the artist, and I designed the character. I had this idea for the skull-head, something like Elvis' 1968 Special jumpsuit, and so forth, and Ploog put the fire on the head, just because he thought it looked nice. Gary liked it, so they went off and did it." [1]

Friedrich on the above, in 2001:

"Well, there's some disagreement between Roy, Mike and I (sic) over that. I threatened on more than one occasion that if Marvel gets in a position where they are gonna make a movie or make a lot of money off of it, I'm gonna sue them, and I probably will. ...It was my idea. It was always my idea from the first time we talked about it, it turned out to be a guy with a flaming skull and rode a motorcycle. Ploog seems to think the flaming skull was his idea. But, to tell you the truth, it was my idea."1

see. no mention of carter slade/phantom rider/western rider/ night rider n whatever other name hes gone by. no connection at all history or origin wise to CS.

Good Idea!

I think a Slade movie would be awsome. Sam Elliot was deffinitly an awsome part of the movie.

iwas browsing at a convience store the other day when i saw a display of skull rings, one of them reminded me of the transformed carter so i bought it

I doubt they'll trend on that area, but it would be interesting no less.
