Why Pope Francis is Times "Person of the Year"

The man should be a brutal wake up call to those that attempt to use religion to oppress others and think that's alright because it's in the name of their religion.

They'll just ignore him and wait for a less radical Pope to show up.

I really hope he starts a trend in future popes......imagine a world where Catholics loved and accepted everyone no matter what religion, sexual orientation, etc.? I wish I'm alive to see a day like that realized.

This is how I feel.

As do I. He seems to really care about the people and wants to see the religion go the proper way as described in the book itself.

People in general should just live like that. I'm tired of humanity shoving each other into these different ****ing tribes which we'll kill and fight over. Its such a ridiculous trait we have to be tribal.

Or people like that will become fundamentalist Christians, if they have not done so already.

Meanwhile, Catholics, both clerics and lay people. who have long felt as this Pope does (and there are a lot of them) will feel more engaged by the current leadership, and people who previously could not reconcile their faith with some of the horrible things espoused by the previous two Popes are at least taking another look at the church.

First strike against Pope Francis in my eyes, and here i thought he was going to be different: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/...xtradition_n_4577241.html?utm_hp_ref=religion

Archbishop Jozef Wesolowski's Extradition Declined: Former Papal Nuncio Accused Of Sex Abuse Remains In Vatican

Archbishop Jozef Wesolowski will not be extradited to his native Poland, despite accusations of sex abuse there and in the Dominican Republic, where he served as papal nuncio until his August 2013 dismissal.

The Warsaw Office of the Prosecutor reported the the Vatican had tersely replied to their extradition request, saying that "Archbishop Wesolowski is a citizen of the Vatican, and Vatican law does not allow for his extradition," according to Catholic Culture.

Polish TV channel N24 commented that "The Holy See's response is concise and fits in a half-page. The letter's authors noted that the Vatican is investigating the Catholic hierarch about the alleged practice of pedophilia," according to Dominican Today.

The Vatican recalled Wesolowski to Rome before Dominican prosecutors announced their investigation, though it said that it was cooperating with prosecutors. Wesolowski is the highest-ranking Vatican official to be investigated for sex abuse, and his case raises questions of sovereignty when it comes to prosecution.

At the time of the recall, Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi denied that the Vatican was trying to shield Wesolowski.

According to The Tablet, Wesolowski is currently believed to be living in the Vatican.

If you're interested in knowing more about this case, you can read several articles here: http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/search?q=Wesolowski

This is upsetting. Everyone here is expressing disappointment in the Pope, considering his actions and words up until now.

It makes sense though. Since it is technically a country unto itself and has no extradition treaties then they don't really have any reason to send him out without having ramifications for later on.

Maybe Francis wants to deal with him himself.
I hope so, but as off right now i'm not very hopeful. This is the second big abuse case by a priest in 2013 that was revealed in my country. The other one is Wojciech Gil, a buddy of Wesolowsky, whose prosecution was also denied but there's evidence he abused at least 15 boys (he's a real gem http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/lo...ophilia-evidence-mounts-against-Polish-priest) They better make an example and come down hard on them. I would have preffered seeing them rot in the very crappy jails here though, not in a fancy Vatican one.

Is this something the Pope himself can handle or is it more a government bureaucratic thing that he himself is not able to interfere with?

I'd assume it's beyond what the pope could manage due to it dealing with international politics. He could tell them to hurry up and get him out but in the end it is all up to bureaucracy.

If that is the case I wouldn't blame the Pope for something a government function is responsible for.
