Personally, I think that by the time Francis is done being Pope, Christianity is going to be in a more powerful position in the world. We live in an era where the Church is no longer a major political power and is losing influence due to being out of touch with society. Francis seems to want to put the Church back into a position that is in tune with society while going back to the roots of the teachings of Jesus Christ. And personally, I think that under Francis, we're going to see the Catholic Church reunite with the Orthodox Church and maybe even the Anglican Church.
I doubt either one will happen. Francis is personally popular but there's a gap between liking the Pope and continuing to believe all the teachings of the Church.
I don't see a reunification of the Anglicans and Orthodox with Catholicism, either. There are probably a lot of doctrinal differences that have accumulated over the centuries, and, again, liking the Pope doesn't equate to liking the Church. After Francis dies or retires he could be replaced with another Benedict or John Paul II.
At best I see Francis stanching the flow of young Catholics from the Church. Maybe he'll win some converts too, but that's all.
Religion doesn't get you into heaven....faith in Christ does.
Matthew 7
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
You left out an important part of the chapter:
21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles? 23 Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!
Sounds to me as though Jesus is saying that people who do evil deeds in God's name have no place in heaven.
One other thing: Catholics
are Christians. They were calling themselves that long before Protestant showed up.
