Can you believe this? A lot of critics apparently complained that Scarlet Johansson having a racy sex scene in The Black Dahlia was "unnecessary and too distracting" from the rest of the movie. First of all, seeing her having sex is worth the price of the ticket already, second, isn´t it THE JOB of critics not to let such things distracting them from objectively analysing a film?

The thing that I find funny is that it wasn't even really a sex scene. They were really just making out. The critics only made a big deal out of the scene because her and Josh are seeing each other in real life. I mean, there was
an incredibly graphic lesbian sex scene involving a fake penis
yet didn't seem to bother anyone at all.

Doesn't make any sense, does it?

Really? That´s kinda disappointing... Is she even naked in it?

No. Scarlett isn't going to be nude in any of her upcoming films, I don't think. Coming from the expert.

So they just kiss, **** like that? That´s no sex scene, really...

There´s hoping, though. Michael Bay said she wanted to be naked in her sex scene in The Island cuz she hated her bra...

Basically. Her and Josh start getting it on the dinner table, but it cuts away before you see anything.

****ing Michael Bay, he had the only chance so far to give us a salivating look at Scarlett's boobies and he jinxed it up. Arrrgh! :cmad:

Michael Bay is an idiotic filmmaker. He still would be one even if he let her go nude.

Doesn't matter the movie was still crappy anyway though.

SOMETIMES?! Critics are always jerks, and they expect you to listen to their 'almighty' opinion, simply because of the title or pertinent-association. Screw them, and screw their opinion. They can feed their bananas to the monkeys, and I'll decide for myself. Don't let them influence what you like.

Its all a matter of opinion. So what if a critic doesnt agree with you? Chances are, someone you know doesnt agree with you. Personally, I suggest finding a critic who appeals to your taste and stick with him. Richard Roeper is best known critic I ususally agree with.

And yes, there have been many movies where a sex scene was completely unnecessary. I haven't seen Black Dhalia, so I cant comment on this film, but the point still stands.

WHo cares...the film was terrible.

We do agree sometimes.:)

As for why critics are jerks, because most of them have an elitist snob attitude that leads them to believe that their opinion is up on a pedestal above others because they're (undeservingly) payed to give it; to add to their immense ego, there are actually movie fans that are ignorant enough to believe that their opinion is of greater worth because they're so called "professionals."
They also believe their job is to come up with the most creative pans and puns that their self-important minds can conjur up.

Its funny when people say how and mighty and better a critic thinks his opinion is and how much better it is than lesser beings, yet some of you are dismissing critic's opinions...in essence, you're doing the same thing you're accusing them of doing.

I don't go by a lot of critical opinion anymore, but I still like to read them to get a sense of a movie I haven't seen.

I wasn't dismissing their opinion, merely pointing it that it's no greater than that of a movie fan, which many of them (and even some fans themselves) don't realize.

Dude get a girlfriend.
Why does everyone seem to think it was this racy sex scene when nothing even happens? they kiss on a table big deal.

I have one thank you very much. If she doesn´t bother me seeing women naked on screen, I might as well enjoy it.

They are called "critics'....because it is their job to "critique" (analyze, evaluate, appraise, and assess) how a movie is made....so, if they feel that a sex scene distracts from the flow of the movie....it is their job to say that.
