Why the hatred against Paul WS Anderson?

exactly, he's stuck on that upwards slope that it frustrates me. And what bugs me is when he writes screenplays. He's not a good writer at all; he should stick to directing.

He has that same 'Ronny Yu (FEARLESS) vibe, or the guy who made 'the forbidden kingdom'; movies that has a very European vibe (Paul WS is british) that has that watered down American aftertaste. i don't know if that makes any sense or not.

personally, i don't think he should director OR write. i'd say he'd probably be best as a producer, but then again he produced those crappy Resident Evil sequels.

what he needs to do is goto film school if he hasn't already, and if he has then he needs to go back.

I was entertained by the fights and the techno music in the first Mortal Kombat, it was goofy fun. But yes, Anderson is a hack overall. He's not as bad as Ewe Boll, if that helps any.

The only two movies of his that I think are ok, are Event Horizon and Mortal Kombat. I especially like MK. It may not be the best movie ever made, but the story stuck to the games and the actors chosen for the roles did actually do a pretty good job with the material they were given. Linden Ashby, Robbin Shou, Christopher Lamber & Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. It was simply fun watching them breath life into the characters of one of my favorite fighting games.

Resident Evil was a bad adaptation, but i still watch it and think it is an alright movie

Man I thought this was a thread about Paul THOMAS Anderson, got scared.

i enjoy some of his films as nothing more than moronic action popcorn. but as most have said he doesn't want to seem to try and give anything that can improve his work a try. if he can get away with the littlest of effort he will

that and he seems to have a fetish for taking as much away from the source and changing it so he can claim credit for the ideas

The fact that most of Anderson's films end up getting shown repeatedly on the Sci-Fi Channel says a lot about their "quality".

First of all I have to say I know his movies are kind of superficial with almost no depth at all. But I cannot understand why he is burned to the ground all the time. Movies are made to entertain people, and most of his movies do just that. Like Michael Bay(bad example for alot of people, but not for me) he knows how to deliver action. When I first saw Mortal Kombat i was blown away(a little less nowadays), but it is the experience you get from a movie that counts. The first Resident Evil, also a movie I liked. And AVP was kind of a dissappointment but the action in it was very well done.

Bingo. That is one of the reasons why Paul W.S. Anderson sucks. The thing that separates Paul W.S. Anderson and Michael Bay is unlike the former, Bay actually has some good movies under his belt. All criticism aside, Bay's worst movie beats Paul W.S. Anderson's best movie. Even if it isn't as much as other directors, Bay has that extra flare that Paul W.S. Anderson has yet to have in his films. Another thing that doesn't help Paul W.S. Anderson is his writing. Judging from his films, he isn't a good writer.

Many posters in the thread have stated the reasons why Paul W.S. Anderson is on the lower end of directors. He just doesn't cut it.

To be fair, I think he's a decent director. The stuff I've seen is okay, not great though.

It just his writing that is poor. Predictable plots, cliched characters, and an almost total disregard for any franchise he may be adapting.

I've heard that the "WS" stands for "Worthless ****."
