The real name for Nintendo's next console is...

The new name for the console tentatively named Revolution is "Wii". Pronounced "we", the name was chosen for being easily memorised, pronounceable by people all around the world, and not needing abbreviation.

The mysterious Nintendo statement and logo are below. Expect to find out more as E3 creeps ever closer.

Introducing … Wii.

As in “we."

While the code-name “Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like “we," which emphasizes this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive “ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it’s really not about you or me.

It’s about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.

Pretty silly name I must say

I will stick to calling it REVOLUTION or REVO.

yeah, they shoulda just stayed with Revolution :down

still, it's just a name...even though it's not a good one.

Screw it, Nintendo knows everyone just calls their consoles 'Nintendo' anyway.

This sounds like console suicide

side-note: everyone remember how the N64 was originally Nintendo ULTRA 64, but the "ultra" was dropped within a few months of release?

LOL........AND TO THINK PEOPLE MADE FUN OF '360'. :D STUPID MOVE, 'NINTENDO'......'REVOLUTION' WAS PERFECT. :down

yeah, maybe if there's enough backlash, Nintendo will change their mind :(

just wait for the "Wii Wii" jokes to start...it's Wiitarded and Wiidiculous :)

I'm betting there probably will be, Lackey

That name is Wiidiculous.

Damn, Lackey beat me to it :(

eh... i still prefer it to 360.

but truth be told, both are pretty stupid.

i do like idea of the "ii" representing the controllers, though.

It's just a name. Like the other guy said, everyone pretty much calls it nintendo no matter what. Well at least do. It's about the games, not the name. I don't care if people make fun of the name, it's probably going to be a kick ass system no matter what. I originally thought playstation, xbox, and dreamcast were crappy names; but they are great systems in my opinion. The name don't mean ****. It could ruin marketing, but I think when people see the controller in action, no one is going to care what the system is called. The name is alright, it's not the stupidest thing in the world, but revolution was a cooler name.

Dammit, I can't like the console, the games, or the gameplay now that the name isn't as good as Revolution. NINTENDO IS SCREWING US AGAIN!

In all seriousness though, I agree with the posters who said most people will just end up calling it "Nintendo" anyway.

wow...that's the most ******ed name for a console EVER...especially the stupid spelling of it...what the hell is the point of that...

it's like iPod. they're trying to be cool.

At least they're trying to be creative and risky with the name. Not like playstation 3, which is a boring and bland name. Wii represents Nintendos message with their system. The name isn't that big of a deal like many are making it out to be.

"Mommy! Mommy! I gotta Wii!"

"I just bought you a new Nintendo, and all you can think about is your bladder??"

But hey, imagine the taglines this system could have:

Wii The People
In the War of Consoles...Wii Will Prevail
Wii WILL Rock You
