Versus MAY very well be the FF game that brings me back to FF... which I haven't really cared for since 9.

However, Square seems to be dragging their feet with that one. Why in the hell was XIII-2 released before Versus which has been in development since XIII?!

Final Fantasy XII was really good. It's probably my third favorite behind IX and VI. If you liked KOTOR and Dragon Age, it's worth checking out because the gameplay is pretty similar.

I have to imagine it's just the typical Japanese thing of how they publicly announce games at their inception, whereas in the west, games typically aren't announced until they're relatively close to being finished.

An extreme example of that would be Mega Man Legends 3. That game was publicly announced with artwork and screenshots before the project had even been greenlit.

Anyway, supposedly Versus just entered full production a couple of years ago, and the director (Nomura) recently said that they're going to have some announcements regarding Versus this year, they're just not sure when.

Oh I played XII... I just didn't care for it. The story just screamed "Star Wars" to me. I love Star Wars... but it felt "been there, done that."

It was a BIG step up from what X was though.

I don't count XI.

I understand why people don't care for XI, but I really liked it a lot. I ended up playing it for about a year, maybe even a little longer.

Though I might have had a different opinion about it if it didn't have the novelty factor of being my first MMO, as well as the fact that I wasn't paying for it. :P

If you want to continue with this, we should probably move it to the Final Fantasy thread, lest we anger a mod.

I don't dislike it.. Not at all. I just wish it was its own game in its own "online" universe.

As for mods... Let Them Come! [/ Théoden]

I always thought "Playstation" sounded like some kind of jungle gym.

Yeah I know. After Sega made a point of trying to present a cooler, more edgy image than Nintendo had, it was surprising to me that Sony could come along with kindof a corny sounding name and not come off as being a nerd's system and thus suffer. I know that's kindof shallow and all, but if people were staying away from Superman because of his trunks, I can believe people would buy a system based on how the system looks or what it's named. Remember all the ribbing Nintendo got over the name Gamecube, the purple coloring, and the lunchbox handle? People are shallow.

Activision Will Be Playing An Important Role On All Nintendo Consoles This Year & Next
By Menashe – February 8, 2012

Nintendo Enthusiast has learned that Activision will be major ally to Nintendo in the upcoming months and years. When learning about Activision’s support for Nintendo we were told by an industry source to just wait and see because Activision will be playing an important role on ALL Nintendo consoles this year and the next.

So, does that mean the launch window, as well? Yes. You should anticipate Activision backing Nintendo during the launch of the Wii U as well as over the next few years. They are currently working on multiple titles for Nintendo systems. And not just a couple unrefined ports as they did with the Wii launch. Remember EA’s people up on stage at last E3′s Wii U introduction? Well Activision won’t let EA have Nintendo all to themselves. It might not be as pronounced as with EA but it will still be a key role for Nintendo.

Let’s move on from this affirmation of Activision’s intentions and enter into my own personal speculation. What does this new information mean? Activision has already supported Nintendo with the Skylanders series and the Guitar Hero franchise (which is currently taking a break.) Our source implied that this support will be greater than it was before. So, the BIG support probably isn’t coming from those franchises. Tony Hawk has been down and (mostly) out of gaming for the past while. Crash Bandicoot? Unlikely that that’s the important role. Marvel games like X-Men and Spiderman are getting warmer but still not a critical factor in the industry.

By process of elimination we are left with the James Bond franchise and Call of Duty. Whether Activision will be providing a new Goldeneye 007 game or a big Call of Duty release (or both), either would provide hardcore gamers with an excellent FPS title at Wii U launch or soon after. Still, if I had to wager a guess, I’d be more inclined to say that the big role Activision will have on Nintendo systems will be primarily played out within the Call of Duty franchise. If Activision decided to focus Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer Games on creating a full-fledged Call of Duty sequel specifically designed for the Wii U and its unique capabilities, this could go a long way to giving credibility to Nintendo’s shift towards attracting a hardcore gaming audience.

Wii U patent reveals possible 3D, HD controller screen

Possible tech to feature in Nintendo's next console

Newly uncovered Nintendo patents for the Wii U reveal some of the features the platform holder has considered for its new console.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/viewer.php?mode=article&id=277902 The most interesting of the filing's revelations is the possibility for the screen on the controller to don full HD resolutions (higher than currently revealed) and glasses-free 3D, like the 3DS. Both get our vote.
The patent, dated September 2011, also details microphones that could be used for voice recognition in games, noting that "one or more additional microphones...may be provided on the front and/or back surfaces".
Face recognition, via the controller's already confirmed front-facing camera, is also listed as a possibility, with facial data being stored on the console for software use.
Web browsing is mentioned, along with the ability to connect to other devices with exchanges of "images and sound", which pretty much sounds like video chat.
Users can seemingly also expect the controller to support expansions as is the case with the Wii Remote. The patent shows an example of a gun attachment that could use the small screen as a potential targeting aid, similar to the zoom scope screen on Silent Scope arcade cabinets.
The patent does note, however, that "statements herein do not correspond to any particular actual product that may be eventually be made available to consumers," meaning none of these features may ever actually materialise.
3D screen, though - yes please.
Ninja Gaiden 3 developer, Team Ninja has said recently that the Wii U hardware is currently changing "constantly

Sounds like the controller will basically be an HD 3DS. Interesting.

Thus the chances of a name change dwindle.

To be fair though, Gamestop had the Vita labeled as NGP before it was officially named at E3.

True, but I don't have high hopes for a name change.

Rumor: Dead Space, Overstrike, and TimeSplitters 4 coming to Wii U.
Posted: February 25, 2012 by Katie McKenzie in News

According to a concept artist for a developer studio associated with Electronic Arts, there are plans that Visceral Games, the company behind the Dead Space games, to make a new installment of Dead Space, and that will be coming to Wii U and other consoles. No Dead Space game will be shown at this year's E3. Another game from Electronic Arts that I was told will receive the Wii U treatment is Overstrike, which is developed by Insomniac games. Insomniac has received Wii U development kits. Insomniac are known for franchises such as Resistance and Ratchet & Clank for Sony's consoles.

And the last interesting tidbit of news that I am hearing involves Crytek, who is a partner with Electronic Arts. Crytek might be giving Electronic Arts the publishing duties for TimeSplitters 4 for the Wii U. Coincidentally, before Free Radical became part of Crytek, Electronic Arts published Timesplitters: Future Perfect. TimeSplitters 4 will be announced at E3 this year for the Wii U and other consoles. I'm hearing that there is over 150-200 Wii U games currently in development. Nintendo is planning to announce numerous partnerships and collaborations regarding the Wii U at this E3

My friend told me that when Electronic Arts received the first and second versions of Wii U development kits, Nintendo wasn't sure how powerful the console was going to be. All they cared about at that point was making a console that was easy to port 360/PS3 games. They had to keep the dev kits at 360/PS3 level in the beginning because it's easy to start low on specs and go up in power, but it's impossible to create a super powerful development kit and then downgrade it in power. I hear that the 5th and 6th versions of this development kit are pretty powerful, and Frostbite 2 has been seen running on the Wii U with very smooth results and a higher frame rate than the 360 version of Battlefield 3, that are superior to any PS3/360 game running Frostbite 2.

Again, take all of this as a grain of salt/rumor until its confirmed, but I felt the need to share some of this since people seem to want Wii U news.

I confess I am a closet Timesplitters fan. I was never all "dude, Timesplitters is awesome" but I have kept up with the franchise.

I used to be all "dude, Timesplitters is awesome". :o

New Aliens Colonial Marines Wii U gameplay video
New footage from the Wii U version of Aliens Colonial Marines.

You may have seen Aliens Colonial Marines in Nintendo's Wii U video at E3 last year but now new footage has emerged of Gearbox's shooter running on Wii U in an Unreal video.

Unreal's video was showcased at the Games Developer's Conference which is taking place in San Francisco this week. Designed to show off what the Unreal Engine can do, it gives us a sneak peak at Aliens Colonial Marines on Wii U, a game that is powered by the engine.

Skip to 0:34 and you can see some marines being attacked by Runner aliens before another clubs a Queen alien with the butt of his rifle. It looks sweet.

Well, graphics ****es don't have to gripe about this one not being on par with PC/360/PS visuals.

It's supposed to be more powerful than 360 and PS3, so it's no surprise.
