Will a US PS3 play a Region 3 DVD?

This has probably been asked before, and probably by me, but I forget the answer so:

I'm thinking about buying a Region 3 DVD, but I'm not going to if it doesn't work on my PS3. I'm in the US, which makes it Region 1, yes?

Oh, and for that matter, will it play a Region 2?

And as a side rant: Who the hell thought region coding DVDs was a good idea?!

No, the PS3 games (and some Blu-Rays) are region free, but the region locking from the previous generation still stands. So your R1 PS3 will only play R1 DVD's. Sorry bro.
