Wil DC or the other companies ever catch the house of ideas?

After the end of the 90's, it seems unlikely. Which is a shame. Lack of competition has made Marvel rather complacent. They realize they don't need new ideas, because even at worst they outsell DC two to one. They can just do the same stuff they did a generation ago and work fine. Personally an industry where the top dog position was up for grabs, TRULY up for grabs, every month, where creativity was rewarded, would be a better industry for all.

If DC wants to catch up to marvel they gotta start marketing their characters better. We'll need more movies and more cartoons based on Dc characters OTHER than Batman and Superman. Even though alot of marvel's movies sucked, alot of them were very successful too and made once obscure characters household names. Just look at Ironman's success. But for some reason DC/Warner Bros is afraid to touch anybody other than Bats and Superman.

Marvel: quantity>quality

both are true...Marvel released Spiderman 1&2, X-Men 1&2, Iron Man, TIH which are from what Ive seen are liked all around
But then they had FF 1 (which I thought was ok) & 2, Ghost Rider, Punisher, War Zone, Elektra, Daredevil (which I thought was ok), XOW, Hulk, Spiderman 3 (which I thought was ok), and XIII. Movies that have the general consensus of being lackluster by alot of ppl

They have more "bad" than good, but still they have more success because they release steady movies

I recently saw the 2004 Punisher movie, i thought it was really really good. Good plot, good characterization, good revenge. Why do people hate that movie so much?

^^BTW, you forgot to mention the first Blade movie.:yay:

The only movies that Marvel made were Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. You can't blame them for a dozen crappy movies that they had no control over.

DC will never outsell Marvel because Marvel releases more product than DC and sells more books at a higher price point than DC.

Quality wise, DC was much better than Marvel before Infinite Crisis, but Marvel took that over after Civil War producing better books. DC can catch up yet again if they just continue what they're doing in fixing the messes they made. Wonder Woman is fixed, the Flash is in the process of being fixed, the Titans still need to get fixed. What they also need to do is get rid of DiDio who is constantly changing his mind.

That's more opinion than fact to me. Everyones tastes are different in their superhero/comic book reading.

I was always a very big Marvel guy early on and as time has progressed in my comic reading I have read more and more DC stuff and gotten into more DC made stuff.

So when it comes to me Marvel is not top dog. DC is actually top dog to me mainly because of the Veritgo line. Scalped, Fables, and Ex Machina are freakin' great.

Let's be honest, with the exception of Batman and his rogue's gallery there's not much to DC. (If you like Superman then fine, but I think he's dull). Marvel has all of the name characters: Spiderman, Wolverine, X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, etc.

Like I said, its because Marvel has done a better job marketing their characters to the general public. Me personally, if it wasnt for the Justice League cartoon (which was AWESOME btw), i would have no interest in DC besides Batman. The cartoon introduced me to the DC characters and showed me what potential they had. DC's problem is that they never capitalized on that. The JLU cartoon was incredibly popular, and DC should've taken advantage of that. Marvel always capitalizes on new cartoons and movies as an opportunity to make their characters more accessible to the gen public.

In all fairness though, DC's doing a fine job making Green Lantern a top character again. His book is arguably the best one over there. They need to do that with more characters though besides Bats and Supes.

top dog? maybe...but they'll never have batman ;)

Competition does bring out the best in people creativity-wise. I think most of the creators, especially the cream of the crop, are still kicking butt though. There is still a pretty large quantity of extremely good comics out there with many comic companies.

It is unlikely that any other company will be capable of challenging Marvel besides DC. Image's high times were in the 90's and even then they were about 13-20% of the market. Now they are 4%, with Dark Horse. No other companies are even that close besides Marvel & DC. Which is also a shame because the cottage industry could use some innovation.

I'm sorry, but with all due respect, the Flash is a train wreck since they decided to bring Barry back...

:csad:

DC did outsell Marvel for a little while in the build-up to Infinite Crisis. They've fallen way behind since then, though. Make of that what you will. Personally, I think DC's been putting out some truly awful comics since Infinite Crisis, but that probably has nothing to do with why they've lost market share. Quality and sales are entirely independent of each other.

Marvel introduces more interesting detailed characters outside of Batman, DC Comics generally has better stories.

to me marvel is so much better than dc at the mo..the dc stories i like now are superman-new krypton, dick grayson as batman is interesting, but best by far is green lantern.
there are to many marvel books i like right now to mention...but with cap returning soon the excitement factor is high!
