Will PS3 play PS2 Games????

I just want to make sure that the PS3 will be able to play PS2 games. My PS2 actually broke about 2 months ago and I've been waiting till x-mas to see if the price will drop. My GF actually got Marvel Ultimate Alliacne and Bully for x-mas and I'm debating whether i should fork over some cash for the PS2 or just wait and save up for the PS3. I originally thought that the PS3 wouldn't be out till next summer for whatever reason. But I guess it's coming out in the middle of november now.

Yes it is backwords compatible but its been confirmed that it wont improve the graphics of ps2 and ps1 games like the ps2 did.

Yep. You'll have to buy an adapter to use your old memory cards though since PS3 has no memory card ports. The adapter will retail really cheaply however, so it won't set you out too much.

Well ps2 didn't play all ps1 games, Tomb raider 2 for example! It just brough tup the soundtrack like a music Cd instead

^^ you must have a defective ps2 or something because Tomb Raider 2 played fine on my ps2.

It's because the ps2 played Cd's, so it brought up the soundtrack instead of the game, but Tomb Raider 2 was probably the worst in the series, with tomb raider 4. But it might be becuase my ps2 was uk? And it still works fine, so not faulty

What?! TR's 1-4 were the best! TR 5+6 were garbage. TR Legend was good
but too short and linear.
now that i got that out of my system, your ps2 is probably fine but your tomb raider 2 is probably damaged or not a pal copy.

The best tomb raider was easily the first, then the 5th(chronicles), then probably 3, then four and 2, which sucked! Number 2 was just an action game, and number four had stupidly long and pointless levels that were all the same. So I wans't that bothetered about playing tomb raider 2 anyway, just thought I'd mention it, lol

Tomb Raider 1 was best but I think TR3 was my favorite. This is of course not counting Legends as that was made by a different developr and was amazing
