It seems like this film has a lot of the same elements the first Spider-Man movie had, so will this movie avoid being a retread of the first Spider-Man movie?

Spider bite
Uncle dead
Fight crime

That's all that's in common

I'm not very happy however because alot seems to reminisc too much of the prior trilogy.

I want a grown up Spider-Man already. I want him to be in his mid 20s, semi confident, working for the Bugle, possibly sub teaching or something along those lines.

I really want a new trailer to put some shadow of mystery to rest. I really do.

Yeah, but is this thread really necessary? This will only lead to new discussions/quarrels about SM-3 and such and eventually this thread will be closed.

What aside from what I said?
It seems more different than reminiscent

Yeah, origins are exhausting when repeated like this guy origin
I don't mind the "No Bugle"

I hate the way Arad said it could be tied in, the way Andrew Garfield says Tobey was great and this is not a replacement, I hate they're doing the origin again, I hate the spider symbol is exactly the same.

This is a reboot. I want to feel like it's a reboot. Like I said, another trailer, maybe I'll be convinced, or, especially upon viewing the movie. I hated the POV action scene in the teaser, that's not what I was looking for.

I didn't make this thread, I'm merely responding to it.

1. Story that's based around Peter's parents.

2. Gwen Stacy.

3. Peter developing mechanical webshooters.

4. Different villain, Norman is probably pulling strings from behind the scenes... as opposed to his role in Spider-Man 1.

5. No wrestling stint, as far as we know.

tl;dr:

Yes.

Ignore what Arad said about reboot and untold tale, cause:
  • Maguire met Dr. Connors at ESU, not in high school like he does here, same goes with Gwen Stacey
  • No mention of MJ
  • Mechanical web shooters, nothing organic
  • He's not wearing the costume Maguire drew
  • The Lizard
  • Spider-Man in high school, that other Spider-Man wore the suit after graduating high school

And the spider symbol here is quite different

Look above

I'm hoping this is the Batmab Begins of Spider-Man.

If so, count me happy.

Plus, the font is very similar to the last trilogy, which I utterly despise.

Not saying that wasn't good, but to make it similar? DESPISE. HATE.

That's pretty close to who Peter Parker/Spider-Man was in the Raimi series.

It will very much avoid being a retread of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.

It's darker, it's more "real" as seen with the costume even and how it works, there's no Daily Bugle, there's no Mary Jane, there's a plot regarding his parents.

Now, yes, Uncle Ben dies once again, but that's really the only thing that's the same. There's also a spider bite, but it happens much differently.

Same here, Spidey needs his TDK quality introductory movie

Font looks kinda different

But he doesn't like those stories

"Kinda different"=way lame. WAY LAME. It's a reboot. I liked that font we saw back when from set photos.

Makes me wanna puke.

Semi-confident=no, teaching=no, mid 20s=who knows

I don't even want to remember Raimi's in the slightest. Zilch.

Like I said, a real trailer will put me at ease.

So a new trailer will put you to ease about facts you've probably read a bunch of times about, which I'm sure if you have, you'd be more confidant that this is actually quite different from Raimi's films...

This does feel like a reboot, but it sounds like you truthfully want a reboot...just not with Peter in high school?

Also, I think Andrew just said he's not Tobey's replacement just to appease fans of Raimi's films and to be..you know, nice.

Interesting dynamics...at play here.

Just a little too close for comfort I suppose, to the Raimi series, for me, as the stuff I mentioned.

An extended trailer will help considerably, I hope. I still feel like this is my Batman Begins experience, I really didn't know what was going on until a 2nd trailer came out, and even then I still didn't know until I saw the movie. I'm hoping the same effect come through here.

I was all for this reboot, but for some of the things I have seen, as mentioned, it has not satisfied me entirely.

The Bugle's still in it in some way, if only in passing.

Oh we've seen different adaptations from the very same material (books, comics, even plays - you know, word by word) and they have been so very different.

Semi-confident=no
I'm not sure if you're arguing for a Peter that's more confident than not or the other way around. But the guy seemed sure that he'd catch petty thieves and whatnot, but still doubted some things. I guess you could say that's semi-confident.

From what we've heard, Andrew Garfield's Peter is an awkward outcast, but he seems confident enough to ask Gwen out on a date. Good for him :cwink:

teaching=no
Can't argue with that one. Clearly Peter doesn't teach :oldrazz:

mid 20s=who knows
He became Spider-Man after graduating from high school. And by Spider-Man 3, he's still in college. It's safe to put him from legal drinking age to around 22 or 23.
