The Dark Knight Will we ever hear what Ledger had to say about the role?

I can't help but imagine that the DVD will be a very different, bittersweet thing than we could have anticipated a year ago.

I love DVD extras, documentaries and interviews and such, but the entire thing will now have a tinge of sadness to it. There probably wouldn't have been a cast commentary anyway (since there wasn't one for Begins), but even stuff that I previously looked forward to, like maybe a Joker makeup featurette, will be difficult to watch.

It's a testament to Heath's ability that I can watch his Joker without dwelling at all on the tragedy of his death, because the performance completely enraptures me. It's the behind the scenes stuff, however, that brings me back down to earth.

It helps that you really can't see Heath at all when you're looking at the Joker. Not only from a performance stand-point, but from a make-up effects stand-point as well. Which is incredible.

Agreed. I'm surprised at how well the makeup alone hides heath ledger.

And it's not even all that much. A couple of prosthetic pieces here or there and some white, red, and black make-up.

It's just amazing.

And then the voice, which sounds NOTHING like Heath's. The maneurisms. Nothing like Heath Ledger at all.

Yeah, it is quite strange that you can't even recognize him. I remember showing my buddy one of the first trailers, and he goes, "huh, I thought Heath Ledger was playing the Joker".:hehe:

i saw an interview with him touching on the role while he was still alive a couple months ago.
the hole clip was in a french exept for him talking, and I can't find it anywere.
he was talking about how fun and free it was.
he was in a hat and sunglasses i believe, anyone hear of it?

Yep. That's the reaction I get from everybody I showed months back.

Yeah, I remember that one. Don't have it on me though.

I know the interview you're talking about. He talks about how the Joker is dark, psychopath, sociopath and says its all coming together. Too bad I can't find that interview anywhere.

At the risk of sounding cheesy...you will see what he has to say about the role when you see the movie. Interviews mean very little in comparison when gauging an actors feelings about a role.

I dont Want to know how he created this character, its like seeing an amazing magic trick, then learning how its done, its just not as cool. i dont know if that makes any sense to be honest lol, but im sticking with it!

I wasn't so much concerned with HOW he developed the character but rather what could be the original spark that made him want to do the character in a certain way if he knew so little about the Joker in the first place. but having seen the film i think i have a better idea now.

I saw Nolan tonight speaking with Bale at the New York Times Talk series, TimesTalks.

He was asked if Heath ever saw any of his work, Nolan replied that he had shown the prologue to him in london, in imax format, and that he really enjoyed it.

This interview has nothing to do with The Joker but I like the way he says "get out, come on" at the very end because it sounds a bit like his Joker voice. Can't seem to get it working on here so I will just give the link.

I just wish he was around to reap the benefits of his brilliance and to reprise in the future. I hope in the nest film they nod by mentioning Joker in some fashion. Way to go out with a bang though, he nailed it.I don't just say this cause I like Heath, or love The Joker...but...he would have been larger than life today if he was still around, he would have every role thrown at him. I could see him with a huge smile in post film interviews on how big the film is and what people were saying. Hope he gets the supporting actor Oscar, even not, it won't take away from his performance, spot on and more.

This really bothers me for some reason. It's like having someone build you a pyramid and then dying when you've only seen the foundations, never living to see it completed.

Heath Ledger will be remembered as how James Dean was remembererd in the 50's, a consumate actor who immersed themselves into their roles. The one movie that made me believe that Ledger was a briliant actor was 'The Order'

Yeah, that's my feeling as well. After the success of IM, Downey Jr. has been showered with many scripts, and became a Hollywood sensation again. I think if Heath would've been likewise, and he'll get to choose from many movie projects and became the toast of the town. It's sad to think what might've been.

That is actually creepy to hear. It sounds like some other personality:P
Guess it's just the fact that he did that voice a lot during the shooting of TDK.

I honestly get pi$$ed watching this, because it's not like he O.D.'ed or killed himself, It was one of those F'ed up accidental drug deaths that in this world are not that uncommon.

It might make me brood a bit, because the talk of recasting, what if he was that good at doing the Joker a certain way, it cant be THAT character again. thats what i'm worried about. I was for them not killing the Joker, but part of me now wishes they did just so we would have gotten some closure.

Hm... the more interviews I see of him the more he reminds me of my brother. This thread is making me sad.
