Will you still consider it canon?

I think it's pretty safe to say that the unanimous opinion on the film was disappointment. Yes, I know there are those of us that enjoyed it, but the overall voice of the fans is negative. So, the question is, will you be able to look past X-Men Origins' inconistancies between the film series (not even going to go into them, you'll find whole lists in several other threads)? Will you be able to accept that this WAS the origin story of Wolverine in the X-Men film canon?

I don't think I will. There were too many differences between what was established in the first three films (and also just between different scenes in this one, which if you ask me is just SAD) and this for me to ignore. Plus, I felt X-Men Origins was a weak film, period. Though there is one thing I wish I could keep canon: Victor Creed/Sabertooth (did they even call him Sabertooth in this one? Whatever). I thought he was by far the best thing in the spin-off and definitely a superior interpretation than the growling thug in the first X-Men. If we could just insert the Sabertooth of this film into the other three films...but, yeah, X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn't happen. :yay:

I like to imagine the X-Men saga starts with X1 and ends with X2....

Just because it's the film version of these characters, doesn't mean it has to be the same canon as the comics....which is a ridiculous notion. Two different universes two differen't canon...X1 and X2 were a lot different then the comics...so...for the film version you can see them all as canon.

Message board geeks do not represent the fans. I consider then canon. If I ignored movies I simply didnt like(I liked this film) then that would be pretty ignorant. But yeah I think X-2 will be the final part of the trilogy.

I know they're seperate from the comics, I was asking if you consider this spinoff canon with the other films.

One of the many things that frustrated me was how empty and uninteresting the whole affair was. They spend all of three minutes on the events of the "Origin" mini-series, and then we get this bland, flat sequence where Wolverine is made into Weapon X and escapes.

It's just... boring. All the intensity and horror glimpsed in the X2 flashbacks is gone here. The entire movie feels nerfed--as if it's been sucked dry of every drop of emotion and power. As far as I'm concerned, X2 was the last X-Men film, so no, I won't be considering this pile canon.

from what I've seen, I would consider it canon with the other movies.

Should've voted "Maybe certain parts". Hehe...

It IS canon with the other three films. Whether people liked it or not is irrelevant. It's part of the series.

Yeah, sure. While it certainly had an abundance of problems, it wasn't (to me) as big of a joke/insult as... say... T3 (which I don't want to consider canon in the Terminator-universe).

no kidding its meant to be. the question is whether you personally consider it canon. apparently you do, much again obviously other people dont.

Wolverine has based it's story off the other three films...so yeah it is.

Gavin Hood publicly said he didn't feel he had to follow the other x men films he didn't ignore them but he didn't want to be a prisoner to his own film is what he said

What makes it canon? The fact that Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman are reprising their roles? Or that the creators say it's a part of the other films? Canon and continuity are all about accuracy and without accuracy, canon does not exist. Accuracy meaning how true they stay to the charcaters who appeared before this film. A good example would be Wolverine and Sabertooth. Someone mentioned Sabertooth not knowing Wolverine in X1 yet here in Origins they're brothers. Now please tell me where the canon is in that?

Then why was the marketing for the movie as "see the beginning of the story". Now what is "the story" if X-men Origins: Wolverine isn't a beginning for the x-men serie. :/

Um, yeah that'll do it.

For years they've been talking about this film being set before X-Men. This is also why it's called X-Men Origins. Oh and Stryker's son being put on ice. And Stryker. And Cyclops. And Xavier. These are story threads planted to directly connect this film to the X-series. So you can debate it, but if this film is intended to branch off into another X-Men film universe (which it isn't) they did a piss poor job of it.

Why are you in denial? If you dislike the movie, it's okay. Dislike it. Obviously quite a few people were disappointed. But don't deny the obvious.

I know it's meant to be cannon, but I'm not going to consider it cannon in my mind. As far as I'm concerned Singer's X-Film series ended with X2 just like Burton's Batman series ended with Batman Returns and Donner's Superman series ended with Superman II. :o

It is cannon to me. It will be cannon until they reboot the franchise (if ever). This mean that (to me) this series started horribly, got pretty good good, got even better, and then turned to crap at the end of the story. That means that I no longer care about the X-Men movie universe. It simply does not hold up as an intriguing franchise overall, as only the middle of the story is an any good.

You do realize that after the events of this movie ended, there's still another FIFTEEN YEARS that pass before the events of X-Men 1 happen, right? Fifteen years is plenty of time for Sabretooth to get amnesia somehow and grow out his hair and dye it blond or whatever happens to get to the point he's at in the first X-Men movie. People understand that Professor X being able to walk in Origins but is in a wheelchair in X-Men 1 because him losing the ability to walk happens in between the two movies; yet somehow its an error that Sabretooth still knows who Wolverine is at the end of Origins, as if something can't happen in between the two movies to change that.

At least according to the polls on here, most people liked it.

you people dont know how to separate "personal opinion" and "fact"

just because something is labeled as canon doesnt mean it has to be taken as such. this thread asks whether you consider it canon or not. NOT WHETHER IT IS OR NOT.

oh but i do consider it canon! :cwink:

I think it's canon, and thankfully I now have my satisfying X-Men trilogy.
