I consider it canon, and I'm glad they didn't dumb down sabertooth just to make him fit into his role in X1.

I'll consider it canon ..they may tie some loose ends in with other prequels.

I'm watching X2 on FX right now, and I have to say it's fitting in nicely with the story of that movie. Obviously the Weapon X sequence is different, but storywise it works.

Weren't the Weapon X sequences in Wolverine's head in X2? His emotional trauma could have had an effect on his memory of events

I think they underestimated the fanboys ability to overthink and analyze everything.

It was a nightmare he was having at the beginning of the movie, and later when they find the place he starts having flashbacks. But even with the differences, if he's just remembering the pain of it all, that could just be what his memory is showing him.

Wolverine finding Alkali Lake at the beginning resonates a little more now after seeing the new movie, as does the scene between Magneto and Xavier discussing Stryker just before Xavier is captured. I can really connect the films well enough.

As much as didn't like the Star Wars prequels it was fun to go back to the original trilogy and see the connections.
