Wish My Cat Well

Earlier our family cat appeared to have a bleeding mass of sorts below her and we immediately rushed her to the nearest animal hospital, and it turns out it may be a mammary tumor. We're awaiting the results of her blood work and cytology to determine what it is she has, how treatable it is and if it'll require surgery to remove. We were even told she may not make it through the surgery if we go through with it, and due to her age (she's an older cat) that her chances of survival are lower than for a younger cat. We're hoping things work out in her favor and the results are good and whatever she has it's treatable and survivable. Please send your best thoughts, wishes and prayers (if you believe the latter) to our cat so everything works out for her and she makes it through this alive. Thank you, and I shall keep you all posted.

My mom's cat is 19 and has mammary tumors... and has lived with them for 5 years (since she was 14). She didn't have the surgery because she already had kidney problems which were contraindicated for anesthesia.

Also, your vet can do blood work to check the health of things like kidneys and liver, etc. And if that's in decent shape, even older cats can do just fine under anesthesia (my own cat is nearly 16 and just recently underwent anesthesia with no difficulty).

I don't know where you live, but if there is a veterinary referral center in your area you may want to check it out. Since the vets there are specialized, they can give you a better picture of what's really going on and how realistic chances are for recovery and whatnot.

Some GREAT news, our cat's surgery went well and she's back home, doing fine. Her tumors were removed and from what we were told they were in fact cancerous but we got them in the nick of time before they could spread and become untreatable. I thank you all again for the support and well wishes, it means a lot to have our cat back alive and well and to know she had the support all the way through. Thanks again.

Guess I should have read the whole thread.

This is very good news.

Thanks. We're taking her next week to get her stitches removed, and plan to get her examined at least once a month. With cancer you always have to stay on top of it.

Did they give you some weird cat little because of her stitches?

 Well basically she's doing well so far and her stitches are set for removal next weekend, when her surgical section heals more and the skin bonds more.

Stitch removal went well earlier this month. We checked our cat earlier today and she appears to have what looks like a possible growth in between her legs. We're not sure if it's a tumor but we're taking her to get checked ASAP. Please wish her well it's nothing serious and whatever it is it's easily treatable and survivable. We're thinking it may simply be her body adjusting, since the first procedure she underwent to remove her tumors was quite big and her body was altered a bit, but we're not taking any chances and will get her looked at. She went into heat recently so this may have something to do with it. I'll let you know the latest.

Hope your cat gets well. My parents let their cat out last Wednesday and it hasn't come back. They've had it for 9 years. :csad:

I hope their cat comes back alive and well :( Thanks for your support.

Hope she makes it out all-right. I had to have my guy put down last saturday and its not the sort of event I'd ever wish on anybody. The house feels so much emptier.

Ah, pets: 95% joy, 5% emotional trauma.

We finally took her today (blame incompetant and unattentive family members for the delay :whatever:) and it appears she has a small tumor but thankfully it's been caught early. Our vet is going to remove it and it's a simple procedure to do so, and he'll also spay her so her hormones don't trigger more tumors. Thanks again for your support and I'll let you all know how she is when we get her back on Monday.

That's good to hear bro'.

Thanks. We called earlier to ask how she was doing and she's fine, she's set to be operated on tonight.

We got her back earlier, she appears to be doing fine. We're taking her to get her stitches removed in a couple of weeks. Thanks to you all again for the support and I'll keep you all up to date.

We'll try to take our cat to the vet again later this week. She may have another lump although it may not be malignant being that she's been spayed and it shouldn't be. Regardless, please wish her well that all goes well with her check-up and prognosis, and as always I'll keep you all upto date. Thanks for the support and well wishes.
