Wish My Cat Well

We got back from the vet just now, and with good news and bad. The bad first is that her lumps are in fact tumors and she has mammary cancer and though she's been spayed it doesn't render her completely immune and she can still be prone. The good news is cancer in cats tends to be much more treatable and livable in cats than people, and her tumors and cancer are at a stage where they aren't affecting her. Our vet seemed optimistic enough that she won't die from the cancer or tumors and that there's treatments for her to help. She was given a shot to shrink the tumors and we'll be giving her pills to help shrink them before we take her back in a couple of weeks to get looked at. Please continue to send your best wishes and thoughts to Fifi, and hope the pills work and her cancer is always at a treatable and livable stage where it never spreads. We know she won't live forever but let her cause of death be natural and not cancer. Thanks again for all of your support and well wishes and please keep all of it coming, and you'll always be up to date on it all.

It's good to know that the Doctor is optimistic about her recovering from it all.

Thanks, and I hope things are strongly in her favor. She is very vibrant and lively, and you wouldn't think she's cancer-stricken looking at her.

Fifi has shown some behavior changes in the past three or so days. She's eaten very little, seems to be more immobile and her breathing sounds a bit odd. It seems to be side effects of the dexamethasone she's being given to help shrink her tumors. We're hoping that's all it is. Please send good thoughts and wishes to her that she recovers and her prognosis looks good when we take her to the vet, which will be this Friday (it's not sooner due to the incompetance of some family members  ).

We got back earlier from taking her, she hasn't really gotten worse and it appears some of her tumors are in the process of shrinking. The vet gave us some pasty substance to apply to her lips to lick to increase her appetite while the medicine is working to shrink all of her tumors. He doesn't want to operate since the tumors aren't life-threatening thus far and can always return even if surgically removed. So basically she's hanging in there and not doing badly. We'll take her back in a month for another check-up. Thanks to all of you for your support and well wishes and please keep them coming, you'll always be updated.

My mom's cat, Czar, got a kidney infection two nights ago and had to be put down. The vet said if he was a little younger, he probably could have made it, but even then, doing treatment for it would have probably caused more harm than good. He really wasn't even that old. Only 11 I think. He was pretty much her best friend and pretty much saved here life when she was feeling suicidal after her and my dad divorced. Needless to say, she was devastated.

It's great to hear that your's is finally coming around.

I'm so sorry, Bunker :( My best wishes for your family and Czar :(

Thanks to all of you guys, so far our cat's hanging in there. She's eating more often now, which is a big plus.

The worst news is now real: early this morning around three AM or so, Fifi became immobile and was gasping for air, and she showed every red flag symptom of a dying cat. We took her to an emergency animal clinic by bus and we got the news that she couldn't be saved and nothing could be done, as her cancer rapidly spread and was eating away at her from within and that she developed hundreds of tumors. She didn't respond to anything they were doing, and we had to put her down. I feel hollow and terrible after earlier, and can't believe she's gone after all this time. I thank you all for the support and well wishes you guys gave our cat, for nobody can say we didn't try and do everything we could to save her.

Man, I'm damned sorry. But at least Fifi had a good 16 years behind her.

Sorry to hear that, PR.

Thank you all. I'm still down from this, but I feel a bit of comfort knowing she lived long and well, with a family that loved her and cared for her like a person.

I am so sorry and I know the hurt is deep and you will miss and ache for her a long time. It was nice she was able to love and be loved back for so many years. My heart goes out to you. :(

Thank you. This all feels so surreal to me, to think I'll never see her alive again, but nobody can say we never cared for her because she was loved like a human being for the time she lived with us.

That's a long ass run.

R.I.P Fifi. :csad:

Thanks. I'm grateful we had as much time as we did with her and we cared for her as much as we did.

Damn. That is horrible.

Hopefully she was at peace before she passed away.

She was beginning to suffer, she couldn't move and was down to her last breaths. She's free of any more pain but it's still hard to cope.
