I finally got to watch Man of Steel.
I can see why it's received so mixed scores. But in my opinion, it was a very good film.
It had some similarities to Amazing Spider-Man. For example, while the script wasn't perfect, it had lots of heart and emotions which I liked. While it had some obvious flaws, I liked the overall package alot.
Cavill was great as Superman! All of his parents were great too! Someone I think many people forget to mention is his mother on Earth. She was perfect!
Alot of people have complained about the flashbacks and that Zod was disappointing. I have to say that I loved the flashbacks and had absolutely no problem with the placement of them in the film. It never felt like aping BB to me. Also, while this Zod wasn't nearly as great as the one in S2, I was fine with him. He, and his Kryptonians, were definitely better villains than Lizard to me.
I loved the action! However, it definitely felt like too much at times and reminded me alot of Transformers sometimes. I also felt, like many others, that Superman seemed careless while in battle. Too much destruction that could have been avoided.
I also didn't like Amy Adams as Lois Lane at all! However, I don't agree with the complaint that she was everywhere and annoying. It made sense everytime why she was present. Also, I think she was written well but miscast.
Another thing I didn't like was Snyder's direction. The overuse of sudden zooms were very annoying.
But yeah, overall I'd say it's a very good film. I rewatched ASM recently and found myself a bit disappointed. ASM didn't feel nearly as good as Before. So, to my surprise, I have to say that Man of Steel is the better film of these two in my opinion. But it's still not in the Nolan's Batman trilogy league or even Iron Man, but somewhere below those.
Edit: I forgot to mention another thing. I think that, compared to ASM, Man of Steel had a very clear story going from A to B in a convinced way which I liked. Also, Zimmer was great as always! I never felt the film was too serious. I liked the serious tone and never found that I was missing humoristic scenes. It was never needed, simply. However, the very few that were there were good enough to me.
If I had to compare MoS to ASM straightly, I'd have to say that ASM triumphs in camera work, direction, love interest and cast, while Man of Steel wins in action, villain, story, music and script.
