The Amazing Spider-Man 2 With Great Sequel Comes Great Lounging - Part 2

SM1 is my favorite Raimi Spidey movie. I watched it again over the weekend with my friend and we couldn't believe how much we enjoyed it even with how dated it feels.

SM2 on the other hand I always thought was really overrated. I don't know why but I've never enjoyed it as much as everyone else seems to. It's still good though.

I never understood why people called SM2 overrated. Might as well say the same about TDK trilogy or the Avengers.

The only thing about SM1 that feels dated to me is the Green Goblin and the CGI. Everything else (basically the origin/first half) is timeless.

I do think that TASM2 could give SM2 a run for its money, but we'll see. I think at the very least it could only be better than TASM.
TASM was quite good, but the sequel should definitely be better.

I do.

I was mostly talking about the CGI. And Dafoe's Goblin is actually why SM1 is my favorite, he's my favorite Spidey movie villain so far. Besides his design he was perfect.

The "rule the city plan" was way off though

I agree. It was just random. The bad guy has to have SOME kind of evil plan, so lets just have him rule the world. I think the Lizard's plan was better (it was cheesy, though I don't hate it as much as others do). The issue is that it didn't really fit in with the universe Marc Webb set up, where with the GG, his plan didn't stand out since Sam Raimi works well with cheese IMO.

TASM was quite good, but the sequel should definitely be better.

I agree. I still stand by my 8/10 rating for TASM, though I think TASM2 will at the very least be a improvement. The question is, how much of an improvement will it be?

I want to say that TASM2 will be getting a solid 9/10 from me, so we'll see.

I do.

I think if anything, SM2 is underrated because of movies like that.

SM1 is great because of how well done the origin story is. Heck, it was so good that it was sort of used in the Spectacular Spider-Man season 1.

The Lizard's plan was from the comics. How could the Goblin "rule the city" like he was king?

Well psychology is really really important part of medicine
It doesn't really make one lose use of their legs for a while, can that happen?

And Gastric Ulcers have been proved to be caused by stress
Let's recap; ignored

People like organic webshooters?
Yes, why would anyone hate them?

Hilarious :D
I never understood why people called SM2 overrated. Might as well say the same about TDK trilogy or the Avengers.
Nolan films in general are overrated by crazy fanboys, none of them is a masterpiece, and TDK has more annoying moments than many admit (broken continuity with Rachel Dawes views, not her personality, she's fine in Batman Begins)

It's considered a terrific movie by many, but Ock tolerating Spidey's punches to the face, the power loss, and other stupid moments pin it down to a 7/10

Plus people keep bashing MJ in Spider-Man 3, which has actually a better version of Mary Jane, basically the best MJ in the Raimi films (she tolrates, unlike the whiny baby in SM2), but they don't hate her that much in Spider-Man 2, she's completely awful in Spider-Man 2. I lower the score of the movie to reflect that

MJ in SM3:
  • Needy? Aren't we all? But forgives mistakes
  • She wants to talk, Peter's enthusiasm and overwhelming optimism always interrupts her, that didn't make her whine (with the exception of the apartment scene, which she still acted like a mature person and didn't stop Peter from leaving to save people from the crane, if she kept whining and he stood for her then THAT would be an act of a w****)
  • She got angry in the restaurant, but she went there with things still ticking her and tried to have a good time, Peter didn't let her talk, but she didn't show depression. Gwen coming in and her attitude was what broke MJ's patience, she still had a talk with Peter, unlike the complete whiney w**** in Spider-Man 2
  • People complain she cheated with Harry cause of a kiss, she wanted a friend to listen to, that kiss was unintended and unplanned, it's a spontanious mistake she and Harry didn't let grow, but people complain about that for her being a cheater. Cheating is for her and Harry keep going, not to stop
  • Harry threatened her, instead of letting Peter fight his best friend like a couple of crazy maniacs, Harry went there
  • She got slapped and got really annoyed by crazy Peter dancing, but didn't go all whiney about it
She acted more like a mature woman, the kind who would work hard to maintain the house of the family standing, she was showing actual growth, I'm still rooting for Peter to marry her in Spider-Man 4 (in my imaginary scenario)

Now compare her to Spider-Man 2 (the complete whiny cheating w****, the version more deserving of the angry slap she got in SM3):
I still compare her to the 2k3 episode of Kingpin, can't not do that. In the cartoon she asked Peter to show up to her play, she didn't get angry after he missed it the first time although he promised, she gave him a SECOND CHANCE. Although she got angry after he missed her play the second time, she didn't go all berserk on Peter, and still shown maturity after he saw her play after he ended his mission

In Spider-Man 2
  • She did not even tell him to go, he promised, but he missed it, and then he talked and mentioned the usher, she didn't take the hint he went late, but he was there, she was angry cause he missed her play once. Is the guy supposed to stand out all the time waiting for you to apologize?
  • After that moment she went all out in anger and hatred "Peter, you missed my show, I hate you. Empty seat". Peter reading her poetry is stupid, but hilarious
  • Peter goes to see her show, she enjoys it for a while, when he asks her for dinner she bursts out. (You are walking with him, and he did invite you to dinner in the past knowing you has a boyfriend then, but it wasn't so bad for you. B****)
  • Promises john Jameson she would marry him, but she goes to a coffee shop to ask Peter to kiss her to see if he really loves her. S***, you're promise to Jameson is much bigger than the promise Peter made to you early in the movie, and you did tell him you have a boyfriend, W****!!!!
  • Then she sees Peter is Spider-Man, leaves her groom hanging at the altar and running all the way to Peter with lame excuses and reaction. Again, she broke a much bigger promise than the one Peter made for her, she promised a living of commitment and sanctity, but she broke that promise. It hurts more to see some defend that moment a bit on hate her more in SM3 just because "The man she loves"

The Lizard's plan was from the comics. How could the Goblin "rule the city" like he was king?
The Lizard's plan is from the 90s cartoon, which I don't know if done in 90s comics, but he earlier wanted to rule actual reptiles and inhabit towns in the comics
Green Goblin in the comics did want to rule the city, start with being the Kingpin of crime (Kingpin, the word, the "highest ranking in a thing", don't tell me about Wilson Fisk)

In TASM #6, Lizard wants to turn reptiles into "man lizards" I suppose. But I do believe he wanted to turn others into Lizards as well later on.

Green Goblin did want to take over the underground crime world, but in the movie, he just wanted to kill everyone.

I think the scene where he saved the little girl with no powers was just as important. Especially when he heard that someone had died in the burning building. This whole movie was based on choice and responsibility, and it all started at the end of SM1. Peter made the choice not to be with MJ. He knew he couldn't risk being with her.

I agree about the saving of the little girl in the building but that scene never fit right with me. Why was a little girl still in the building when her parents are outside? They left her in there and ran out like wild chickens when they saw the fire??? Or maybe they left a 4-year old at home alone while they both went to the store or something. Nice parenting. lol.

I know that SM2 is all about "choice" but it has some weird moments. Like, he chooses not to be with MJ cause he's afraid of her getting hurt or dead yet he completely turns his back on a guy getting mugged in an alley. Makes no sense. He may not have had his powers but he couldn't have called for help or intervened like he did for the girl in the fire? That's not a good choice imo.

His plan to kill was to show Spider-Man what a fool he is for not accepting the offer. That will show him :oldrazz:
Crime lords seem to have a great control over the city, a least in comics

The Goblin at the head of the crime mob would be a sight to see. This movie has a lot of build up for future movies to come. The Sinister 6 keeps looking better and better.

Didn't you USM cartoon avatar last less than 12 hours?

So I guess Ultimate Spider-Man has now lasted longer than TSSM, I'm sad.

As soon as season two premiered we knew it lasted longer, and was destined to outlast its superior

Has it gotten any better? I saw a TV Spot and did have some neat things in it.

It's not awful, mediocre-average is a better rating
Some moments have higher ups than others, and they do shoot a lot of nice nods for comic fans and geeks to catch
My biggest peeve is the annoying timing of the cutaways, especially when he laughs at his own jokes and explains it to the audience

There's no buildup in the show. Here's your villain, need some help? Here's Hulk.

The show is terrible, the only thing they nailed is the costume.

It's a Looney Tunes show, I'm not judging it for their storytelling and calling it serious, no one should try to watch it for that

They're trying too hard to be funny. It comes off very forced and doesn't have flow. Yet they cancel The Spectacular Spider-Man which was quality at it's finest...
