Women are weird

The make up sponges and the fact that there is more than 1 type of them and that they serve more than one purpose isn't weird.

What's weird is how hard it is to find them without makeup kits.

Oh my God, I don't use makeup a lot and I know what a makeup sponge is. Sheesh...it's just an often triangular shaped piece of foam that makes putting on concealer easy and blends eye makeup for you. The ones my mom uses look like this and you find them in the makeup department.

If you want your ladies to have good looking faces with makeup on them by God get acclimated to what these things look like. Seriously, is it that hard to grow some intelligence and learn what things are? Jeez, when I'm with a guy I'm rabidly interested in the things guys find necessities. Heck, I even want them to educate me about guy things like football plays, etc. etc. (It doesn't hurt that I love watching football. Used to go to the High School games with my dad a lot because our team was just that good back in the late 80's.) But then again I am an introverted intellectual who has to gather as much knowledge as I can in order to increase my intelligence. I just love knowing exactly what I'm looking for and I'm not embarrassed in the least bit if I have to buy things like condoms or maxipads. Why should I be embarrassed about things that are completely normal anyway? Actually I do become quite entertained by the looks people give me.

.

Hey, I saw a bag of those but my wife said specifically "round" or "square", not triangle.

By the way, what is "concealer"?

Ha! Tell your wife to just deal! I mean at least you got the right type of product. Anyways, you can tell your wife that the triangle ones are better because the pointed edge of the triangle tip gives her better precision when blending eye shadow.

By the way, what is "concealer"?

Concealer is the stuff, liquid cream or powder, that women put on their faces to hide skin blemishes. It basically should give your face a sameness in coloration. Of course someone that is really bad at putting concealer on their face will just cake it on like a too thick layer of paint so that their face looks really dark but the rest of their body is paler. The makeup sponge helps to blend it all onto the face evenly. It's like the smudge tool in Photoshop where it just smooths out the concealer and eye shadow so it doesn't look too thick.

35 year old lady on the makeup sponge thing:

1. Concealer sucks: it's extremely difficult to get the right shade and it can often worsen the things you're trying to conceal. Specifically dark under eye circles. It can also cake easily and feel heavy.

2. If you lady cares about the shape of the sponge that much, she's spending too much time on her makeup.

3. Go for a girl who's not afraid of the appearance of her natural skin. Any woman afraid to go makeup free is too high maintenance.

Well, the saga of the makeup sponge has ended as my wife went out and brought her own last night. It turns out that the store I was at the night before was out of them as there was an empty peg a few feet away from the "facial buff sponges" that specifically said "makeup sponge" on the peg tag. She had to go to a different store.

Also, you people criticizing me for not knowing what a makeup sponge was will be heartened to know that I watched my wife's makeup routine this morning. Well, at least part of it....

Turns out the sponge was for the "foundation" (like on a house...only it's a kind of thick brownish cream instead of concrete). After that, she moved on to "blush" or "powder" (I'm not sure which or if they or the same thing). She said she didn't need any "concealer" so that is still kind of a mystery.

Before she moved onto her eyes and lips, one of the kids had a problem while getting ready for school so I had to go help them. Thus, I did not witness the whole eyeliner/mascara/lipstick rounds.

In any event, I can now see what takes her so long when we are trying to go somewhere. You women sure go through a lot to look beautiful.

It's still kind of weird though....

I think many women overdo makeup. Maybe it's addictive? I don't know exactly what my wife does, but I think it mostly involves the skin around the eyes. And the eyelashes.

I want to know how she keeps that gunk out of her eyes.

Makeup ironically does more harm than good to the skin, especially those "skin cleansers" that actively dry out the skin and promote even more use of the stuff or a moisturizer of some sort.

Anyways I have seen those makeup sponges before. I didn't know that was their name so I doubt I would have been any more help. I've seen many other devices used in the complex operation that is applying makeup with no clue as to what they're called or in some cases, used for.

Because I stay away from "beauty" products as much as I can I think has everything to do with why at 42 I look half my age.

Did you guys knew that there are little brushes to apply lipstick? yea, they rub the brush on the lipstick and then they applied it to your lips instead of applying the lipstick directly.

Theatre make up gave me a little insight into the ladies world.

This is his wife you're talking about:wow::oldrazz:

:oldrazz: I was talking in general, not specifically to anyone. Wasn't telling Hapless to ditch his wife, lol.

Hapless, I'm glad things worked out, but don't feel bad about not meeting the wife's needs on the makeup sponges. Lots of women don't know jack about that kinda stuff either.

And if you men think makeup routines are a pain, try wearing high heels and/or pantyhose.

Yep. As noted earlier, too much product is horrid for the skin. And very aging.

I'm minimal with it and look at least ten years younger. Plus I get more sleep in the morning.

And ugh to lipstick brushes. They're so awful. They feather your lipstick and the bristles occasional break off and stick to your lips.

I agree on the first paragraph. And your wife probably uses an eyelash curler, which is a hideous invention!

And she's probably not keeping the gunk out of her eyes. Eye makeup regularly causes eye infections, eye irritations, etc. It's so strong it often needs a separate kind of makeup remover.

As an actor who uses these all the time and STILL has trouble finding them in stores, I got a kick out of this thread.

You gotta do your shopping a beauty supply story, like Sephora or Ulta. They have everything.

Really? I thought they just rubbed the lipstick case thingamajigger over their lips. I use Chapstick sometimes and that is what I've always done.

They look like this:

They are maining for applying lipstick not in tubes, but on palettes, like this.

Some women do use them on tube lipstick though.
