Wonder Woman Movie in Development

Gunn just confirmed it.

That's three movies she's penned so far. Someone's popular over at DC Studios.

I get the sense she's putting together the skeletons, then Gunn can add notes and/or rewrite or bring in a secondary writer if need be.

Not enough sausage in this pot. :o

They probably want to move forward with Wonder Woman because Batman is a bit of an issue for them and you can't have 2 batman films coming out that close together. I'm sure they went with Ana if she can deliver a script relatively quickly and WB is likely pushing this one to the forefront.

You need to have the trinity in order for this universe.

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with Andy Spaghetti's Brave and the Bold.

Wowow this movie is really cooking. Ana Nogueira just adapted Tom King's writing with Woman of Tomorrow... I still think she'll be picking up WW: Outlaw by King for inspiration on this one.

Just seems like this DCU will be Grant Morrison / Tom King adaptations with a little bit of a silver age pastiche--

Superman - based on Morrison's All-Star Superman
Supergirl - based on King's Woman of Tomorrow
Lanterns
- King is producing
Mister Miracle - based on the Tom King run

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing some of Morrison's WW: Earth One either-- it's already an homage to the Golden/Silver Age anyway. Just avoid the specific origin stuff & let's jump straight into an adventure
Lol....we don't need any of Morrisons WW referenced except the technology aspect. Use Perez/Gail/Jimenez/Thompson....so many others.

But i never realized that she's largely been an actress and Supergirl is her first big screenplay. Very interested to see how she is as a writer that Gunn is in love with

Man, we got pretty fast from "Maybe down the line in the Themyscira show" to "Here is who writes currently the movie we fast track."
Glad to see.
You gotta build the Trinity as soon as possible.

That leaves us with...Andy Muschietti...*sigh*.
There is very obviously some uncertainty there, about Batman in Gunns universe.

Yeah, I mean so much of Earth One is pulled from the classics, right? So certainly look to George Perez. Shoutout Gail Simone too though I tend to just think of The Circle (I think that was her?) which was good, and then Amazons Attack! which was a toughie toenail I'd even throw Greg Rucka in there--I liked his run back in the day. And his Rebirth run was good too (at least the origin was but, again, I don't think we need to revisit that quite so soon).

WWs origin only been told once in live action and she was zeus's daughter then so seeing her clay origin and being blessed would still be brand new.

Id look to Perez/Gail/Jimenez/Thompson for the mythological parts of WW. Rucka/King for the more political parts.

Yes, I want Zeus out of the origin... just Hippolyta praying to Hera to give her a clay baby please :)

And that blend of mythological/political is what I'm aiming for-- I don't want just straight-up fantasy; I like seeing WW interacting with "Man's World" & the patriarchy. Though Tom King's writing can often be a little heavy-handed at times, I think his ideas are mostly good in broad strokes. That's why I liked Outlaw-- I feel like it gave us a good, comicbooky & relevant culture wars story, that still gave Diana plenty of foes to punch to compliment the ideological conflict too.

And this is what worries me - They pushing it way too fast, and doing things too fast can be a recipe for disaster. And WW deserves better.

Not necessarily. I'm sure the decision was made to move forward with a wonder woman movie months ago and that's why paradise lost kind of stalled. To Gunn's point, there has only been one iteration of Wonder Woman onscreen (and one of the movies was questionable) so there is still a lot to explore with the character. They really did nothing with the Gods there and expanding that mythology.

If Ana gave a strong pitch and story, it's probably not fast at all. Realistically, she probably has until the end of the year to complete the script, if not longer. Earliest this can come out is in 2027 and they could always switch around the batman (provided it films early 2026) and have wonder woman come out in the fall.

So I'm guessing this will likely be a 2028 film?

I can buy Wonder Woman and a Superman/Supergirl team-up movie being the DCU slate that year.

I’m hoping holiday 2027 but I know that’s probably a crazy turnaround; but Gunn seemed confident on the concept/direction in the Happy, Sad, Confused interview.

And he obviously likes Ana’s writing to hire her a 3rd time (unless it’s a discount rate now lol). Keep forgetting Teen Titans is out there in development too; wonder how that all shakes out

I'm not sure that it's a good idea to have one writer's voice shape so much of the DCU, especially when they're so unproven. This might be needless skepticism if Supergirl turns out to be amazing, but that's a lot of pressure to live up to for someone with zero produced credits to their name. We already know what can happen if one person's voice is responsible for molding an entire universe, and that vision is rejected by the public. I hope there are more checks and balances this time around to keep the DCU from stumbling.
I think it’s just them still being in the early stages of getting the DCU off the ground, established and wanting a sure hand to help build out and lay a strong foundation. If they really liked what Nogueira did with Supergirl, I can see why they would continue going to her for some of these scripts for projects that are going to be the cornerstones of this cinematic universe going forward. I think later down the line once they have a handle on everything and feel more confident about what they’re doing, I imagine they’ll start branching out a bit more with other writers and directors.

I mean, if I was very early on in establishing my own film franchise and I had a very trusted writer that I worked with on a daily basis and had on hand, I would do the same thing.

People are gagged over Nate Mann as the DCU Batman fancast (I may be one of them), but he’d also be good for Steve Trevor (or Cyclops).

Chris Pine’s a tough act to follow; MBJ would be good in the role. You gotta get someone super charismatic/charming in there.

Gunn's continued collaborations with Ana Nogueira is probably no more complicated than he feels comfortable working with her. There's a reason people like Simon Kinberg or Zack Snyder keep failing upward, and it's because they're easing going, laid back people who are friendly to work with and deliver on time and under budget. At the end of the day, that's more important to executives than creating exceptional art.

It's why I'm somewhat concerned that she seems to be Gunn's go-to writer, because she has no produced work from which to gauge her abilities. It's also worth noting that it usually doesn't pan out for creatives when their first projects are massive studio productions like this.

Zack Snyder + under budget?

For all we know, Noguera may be knocking it out of the park behind the doors.
But I'm not going to lie, for a new studio launched two years ago and promising to be one big sandbox for creatives, it's a little disappointing to see some projects with big names taking a back seat and having virtually all the projects actually progressing under the same pen. As talented as she may be.

Now, I can also understand that it's hard to get people on board - there are still talk of the genre 's leaving its golden days, and Marvel Studios has chewed up a bunch of directors - but I suppose that after a few successes, it'll be easier for Gunn and co. to get new talents on board.

Anyway, what matters is the result.

I guess the casting for Silver Swan would be dependent on the age range of the actress who plays Wonder Woman , but for a late teens early 20s Vanessa Kapatelis , I wouldn't mind seeing
Stage actress and Fear Street : Prom Queen baddie Fina Strazza ,play Silver Swan.

She's a great young actress , and she's already been nominated for a Tony Award .

I suspect she's gonna be an actress we'll her more from in the coming years , but she's one I wouldn't mind seeing as Silver Swan , especially if the new Diana is in her late 20s to Early 30s.

Yes. They might not have always generated much of a profit, but he always stuck to the budget that was approved by the studio. I can't recall anyone that's worked with him, be they cast, crew or executives, that have ever said an unkind word about him personally.

I certainly don't like the majority of his films (especially in the last 15 years), but you can't deny that people enjoy working with him.

OH yeah, I think he is a great person. No qualms with him there

That's specious. Gunn is himself a talented creative. If he's hiring her, it's only fair to assume he likes her work.

He can like her work and that work can also not be good. Both things can be true at the same time. It's not like Gunn is some transcendently gifted filmmaker and never has bad taste.

This is all just speculation because we don't actually know if she's a good writer or not. It's just odd that the keys to the DCU are being given to someone so unproven, especially with a franchise of this scale. I'm not against it, but I also can't help but be a little worried.

Don't you dare trap that boy with the watered down X-Men. :o
