Wonder Woman Returning to TV

Diana Prince in this series should've worked for the military, homeland security or even the United Nations. But not as a corporate executive. Imagine Clark Kent being reimagined as a corporate executive. It completely changes his background and personality. One of the things about the Justice League cartoon was that Diana was a relative novice and innocent in this world full of both men and women, having come from an island where she was only exposed to those of the same gender. As a corporate executive, that makes her much more worldly and commercially driven, which is the antithesis of her character. Her struggle should be more about trying to fit in with society, not about juggling her job and love life, which is no different to any other female character on a show, and along the same lines as Ally McBeal.

Well we dont know hwo long this Diana has been in mans world.

But personally I think they shouldve gone with her working for the MetaHomeland Security. Take in the bad guys and save the good ones.

I'm just bugged she for all intents and purposes is pretty much Power Girl in this series.

Well we still have to wait and see. A lot can change from now till they shoot the pilot and even after that they can tweak things if they get picked up for a series.

But they better not exclude her villans and gods.

I'm willing, as most are, to wait and see. "Vigilante" hit me funny too, I think they're framing it after how she's being depicted now in the comics. (You know it's funny, some of us fans are so creative with our ideas, some of us need to be staff writers at the table, I'm serious.)

I like the ideas about her working for homeland security and in Washington...heck they could've kept the IADC...we'll have to wait and see how they portray her as an exec and what business she's in....

I definitely think Paradise Island, the Amazons and Gods should be in the picture...we don't know that they're not, we have to wait and see. Someone mentioned an idea similar to what I was thinking about Diana, something along the lines of her having been in Man's World for a long time...

I was thinking along the lines of, what if she was banished from Paradise Island? What if she was taken and raised in Man's World by Ares who pretending to be her father and keeping her true identity from her? I saw this scene in my head of the season finale: Diana is in her apartment/condo, after the season finale "big fight," she walks past a mirror and her mother's in it and she tells Diana she's needed on the island....I want WW mythos, but we have to wait and see.

The real deal breaker...vigilante...corporate exec...all aside...is the actress. The actress who is picked to be Diana/WW will be what makes or breaks the show. If the actress can convey Diana/WW within the realms of this new adaptation with pathos, passion and conviction...I say, more than likely, most of us will accept her and this show. The next crucial thing is her surrounding cast...it has to be a good, solid cast...and the special effects, for some special effects will be needed. But I feel, the actress, is the deal maker or breaker.

Oh...and this is just me....Lynda Carter must be Hippolyta, if the character is in this series!! It's just respect!!

I agree on that 1000% she should either have that role or SOME role in this series or movie.

Well i heard " Smallville " was, originally, supposed to be a series about the young Bruce Wayne, but the people in the WB ask the creators to change it to Clark Kent so... Maybe that what will happend with this series. too. She'll start as :ww: but the Executives of NBC will turn her into " Power Girl ". :yay:
Anyway, I'm not really familier with Power Girl...Can someone explain me in short who she is, what she is, her backround(in both of her identities) etc.?
I tried to read about her on Wikipedia, but all i have there is her Power Girl identity.
Maybe after that i'll be able to understant where are you coming from with all the "It's not Wondy it's Power Girl protest.
Thank you.

Too bad Regan just had that kid.

That is a good thing in my book. She should not be a part of something that would ruin any type of Wonder Woman & hell any female DC Hero future solo thing after this bombs. DC is digging their own grave for approving things like this

In short..

Power Girl (real name Kara Zor-L, also known as Karen Starr) is a DC Comics superheroine, making her first appearance in All Star Comics #58 (January/February 1976).[1]
Power Girl is the Earth-Two counterpart of Supergirl and the first cousin of Kal-L, Superman of the pre-Crisis Earth-Two. The infant Power Girl's parents enabled her to escape the destruction of Krypton. Although she left the planet at the same time that Superman did, her ship took much longer to reach Earth-Two.
Possessing superhuman strength and the ability to fly, she is a member of the Justice Society of America and the team's first chairwoman. Power Girl sports a bob of blond hair; wears a distinctive white, red, and blue costume; and has an aggressive fighting style.

Interested to see NBC picking this series up. It seems like this network (moreso than ABC) likes to greenlight shows that featured superheroes, with Heroes, The Cape, and now WW. David E. Kelley is well-known for his lawyer-centric shows, so I'd like to see what he can bring to the table with the most famous superheroine in the comicdom.

That i read, but i don't won't to know about Kara Zor-L. I want to read about her Karen Starr personality. Who is she in human world, when she's not "working" for the JSA. What she does, how she lives her life among the human etc.

CEO = real power in the world. It's not inheritly good or evil. But you need real power to do good, if you want to do more than to stop the occasional mugging.

I may be too optimistic, but you have decided to expect the worst.

You're on point, GyLocke. I understand the argument for WW purism, but I also understand that there's something off putting about a professional Ambassador, who, according to the general audience, has no power, and is largely irrelevant.

I think the acid test of how WWoman-like this show will be is to see how she runs her company (if she runs her company). The idea that she'll fit some CEO stereotype put forth by WW pursists is the same reason why she can't be an ambassador, because just as nasty as the word CEO tastes in WW pursits mouth, the world ambassador tastes in the mouths of the general audience, and if WWs mission can't be put into terms the general audience can easily grasp and understand without having a handle on world politics, then the show will fail, or, more likely, never be produced.

Ooh, the response to this news should be interesting.

Charlie Angels helmer McG is being called upon to help revive another female superhero franchise.
Sources confirm to me exclusively that McG has emerged as the odds-on favorite to direct the pilot for NBC’s much-hyped Wonder Woman remake.
The news comes four days after the Peacock gave the David E. Kelley-produced reboot an 11th hour green light.
On the surface, McG is an obvious choice to shepherd Wonder Woman. In addition to his ties to the Charlie’s Angels movies and ABC’s in-the-works remake, the multi-hyphenate has deep roots in the TV biz. He currently serves as an executive producer on Nikita, Human Target, Supernatural and Chuck. (He also directed the Chuck pilot back in 2007.) It also helps that McG’s production company is based at Warner Bros.

eh...You know McG isnt so bad with TV. The pilot was good. And he does produce good shows.

We'll see

If this thing is going to be bad (and it probably will be), it wont be because of McG's direction. He actually does well on TV. I loved Chuck's pilot.

I don't have any problems with McG. So... Cool. I'll wait to judge.

I agree 100%. I'm sure others will show up to knee jerk like they did when the vague "description" from "sources" was thrown out there.

McG's possible involvement doesn't kill me.

Nor does her storyline as a corporate executive. I say we just give it time. The most important thing right now is casting the character properly. Lynda is a tough act to follow.

McG's involvement is actually pretty encouraging. It shows that real effort and talent is being put on the show.

I'm hoping that we'll see Diana as a Wonder Woman like business woman, meeting with ambassadors and high level military people and using her company's resources to help the oppressed. It's actually a much more powerful and flexible (and relatable) position than an ambassador of a fictional country. It has more story potential, and while off putting at first, I think it has real solid potential.

I'd prefer Lynda as Hippolyta, though seeing her as Julia Kapetalis could be fun too.

Not a female president though. a Bit too convenient, imho.

Lynda Carter looks NOTHING like Barack Obama.

:)

With the right makeup...

But ya I think Lynda should be Hippolyta since we wouldnt get to see her that often anyway. And if they could find a role for Lucy lawless that would be great.
