This thread is primarily for those who are employed or going to school(or both) but have been forced to do either of those things remotely due to the circumstances relating to the pandemic. What’s the experience like for you? Please detail your experiences in this thread.

I hate it! I do both online and sometimes it feels like drowning.

Work is manageable, however... My teaching training classes not so much! I need my hard copy books! I'm not a paperless person in this regard.

For work, though, I still need some app to keep track of many tasks and whether if I need to schedule a second action, i.e. send a reminder to the client or something else, check that something has been done, etc. Any good and free recommendation?

Lets see, I've got an arms length reach to my computer, the remote and the fridge? Things are getting done and I'm in the comfort of my own home. Not complaining. Yet.

I’m loving working with zoom. Anyone got any virtual background tips? I’ve already used egypt, the coral reef from finding nemo and the avengers endgame one the marvel account tweeted out. Sfw obviously

i admit i never even heard of zoom before this all started happening. is it like a skype call?

It’s videoconferencing with the benefit that you can have a very large of number of people in the call at the same time, which makes it useful for virtual team meetings.

I've warned about Zoom, though! It seems that it's way too easy for others to get into your computer and have access to your information. Sensitive info, as bank account, credit cards, etc etc.

No matter which device you use it with: computer, tablet or cellphone.

Work at home sucks. I have been working at home for almost a year and it is very boring. I lack communication with colleagues, there is no competition that really motivates me to become better. I work on a small B2B company and I`m currently processing the US Yellow Pages Dataset. I'm already waiting for us to work in the offices again because I'm tired of sitting at home

I don’t have the luxury of working from home, which is good because I think I’d go out of my mind with the isolation.

i cannot telework or work from home, which i do sometimes wish i could. things are super tough on us and they just sprang a surprise inventory on us a month from tomorrow. our last one was in march 2017

I work from home. My law firm is considered essential but we're a health firm and its bad optics to have an office full of people.

I'm lucky enough that I bought a 17" laptop so going from two monitors to one wasn't a big deal. My coworkers who have MacBooks are not too thrilled. I'm okay from home but I miss wearing the nice clothes and jewelry and taking the train downtown.

I did an online diploma program and that sucked. Very difficult to get motivated to do any schoolwork, especially working all day.

I’m all set up with two monitors and my laptop...and I got a standing desk for Christmas. I hope I never go back to the office.

I've worked from home for the last 6 years or so, since redundancy & ill-health forced me to re-shape 'how' I worked and so been doing it way before Covid, just me & my cat during the day. Don't mind working from home at all. I'm disciplined enough to map out my day and stick to it, still meet deadlines and have dins on table and have a 'working day', with the possibility of non-9-5 hours if so needed (which is a lot). Don't have children so 'home schooling' has not been an 'issue' or activity so can't comment on that one.

Distance learning/virtual learning is going well. My son did really well last quarter, made the principal's honor roll. Surprised us both. I do feel bad that he's an only child.

I'm furloughed so I'm not supposed address work emails or use the work cell. I do monitor them so I'm informed as to what's going on. I rotate when I go into the office. The last time I spent most of my first day back with tech trying to get online. That was end of December, I 'll be back the 2nd week of February. That week goes by so fast, and I'm completely isolated. I practically have the entire floor to myself.

I study online right now and I like it, I have more time for learning and my hobbies.I try to write my research paper right now and I found pro writers to help me with my writings. These guys often help me with grammar check and proofreading.

The county I live in is now in the process of a hybrid school schedule, which they want to do after Spring Break when all the families have travelled needlessly. 2 days in school, 3 days virtual. Our county numbers have been the highest in the state so that's a big no for my tiny human. I did buy him a little air purifier that he can plug into his laptop. The HVAC sucks and drop off/pick up was a nightmare pre covid. They already have trailers because they were at capacity. Crazy.

I’m heading back to the office tomorrow and I’m not exactly thrilled about it. How did everyone else go with working out of home again? Any tips?

We’re going back to the office starting in May, but it will only be one or two days a week. We did start going back to the office in October but then they stopped it once Omicron blew up and we’ve been WFH since January. They also removed the mask mandate in the office so it will almost be back to normal.

As for tips, I guess just remember we’re still in a pandemic. I’m almost certain cases will be on the rise again in the fall and we will be back to WFH full time. I plan to keep social distancing when possible.

We’re kind of hybrid for now and would be good if it stays like that. Most of my colleagues seem to favour it. It’s good to get into the office and see everyone but also good to work from home a number of days per week.

Thank you that’s really good advice.

just an update, I turned up but literally no other team members did. When I quizzed it they said “we need to be conscious of people who choose not to be part of the office” so I have informed them I am also one of those people then took my laptop and went home and worked from there

i have not had the ability to work from home or be out of work during the entire pandemic but now that things are opening more i am starting to travel for work again. mostly locally but next week i'll be going about 90 minutes away to work for a week

Are they going to put you up or do you have to commute every day?
