If he gets the part it's not bad news, he's clearly a good actor, and that of course takes precedence.

He ain't Hollywood looking though, and he ain't Grayson looking, he's even a little weird looking by "normal" standards. Which I think is the objection.

Well, I would bet that they will do that in a prequel of some sort, or via flashbacks in a solo Batman or even maybe solo Nightwing movie. All of that depends on how the general audience will respond to the character.
I have to say that I really like the idea. A veteran Batman should have his Nightwing.

This rumor is interesting. I like Driver on Girls, but it's hard to see him as anything other than his character on that show (I guess just because I don't believe I've seen him in anything else). Something about the casting seems off though... I can certainly see the "young John Hawkes" thing but Hawkes has such a naturally sinister look that it almost makes me wonder if Mayimbe has the character wrong and Driver is actually in consideration for a villain, like the Joker or perhaps Metallo.

I also wonder if Hawkes himself has been cast in a role in the film and they are looking at Driver to either play his son or a younger version of him. Perhaps not, but it's a bit unusual that they were supposedly looking for someone that not only fit into a certain archetype, but one that resembled a specific actor. Just food for thought.

I don't watch Girls so I don't have any preconceived bias either way. Dude is a decent actor from what I hear. I guess all that "looks don't matter" rhetoric I hear on here was just that.

Yep. So did the reaction by some people when Amy Adams was cast as Lois Lane. How anyone on earth could criticize that woman's looks is beyond me.

I guess in the longrun I just have an issue with having an already grown and established Nightwing running around in this movie, I really didn't want a character overload in this just for the sake of it and so far that's what it seems to be.

Madden is giod enough for the role imo.
But I suspect his new connection with Disney may land him on Marvel's radar at some point...

Driver actually looks more like Joker I think.

I've thought a lot about the idea of having Nightwing in the movie. I do not want to see a bunch of flashbacks, but bringing the Nightwing character in isn't impossible. Have the movie start with him as an older Robin, already getting to the point of frustration. Have him leave Batman's side early on, just to return as Nightwing at some point later on in the movie. It gives Batman a reason to be: angry in this movie (which I'd like to see if he's going to go to blows with Supes), even more unwilling to team-up with others (his partner just left), and it means we get to see Grayson/Robin/Nightwing all in one movie without him overcrowding the entire movie. He may end up seeing 25 minutes of screen time that way. Also, I think an early on Batman/Robin "break-up" gives Batman a very different vibe than we have ever seen in a Batman movie before.

BTW, LOVE Madden for the role! Would also rather see Kit Harington (Jon Snow) than Driver. Driver does strike me as Dick Grayson.

I don't think he is a very good actor. To me he is in the Nicholas Hoult category. Eye candy and overrated. He sucked donkeyballs in Anna Karenina, he just did his job in Savages and i found his performance as John Lennon pretty insulting although it was praised by critics. I only liked him in the two Kick Ass films.

Loved him in Savages and as John Lennon lol. Think him as an angry Robin who finds peace as Nightwing is perfect for him!

But you're right. He'll be filming Avengers 2 so it doesn't matter.
