Personally, if someone breaks into my house my .45 has a blank in the first round but filed starbursts after, so if the warning shot doesn't send them running I'm taking their head clean off.

On the street, if I'm alone, I'm fighting, no matter what. But I really really like violence, and really it's just an excuse to legally do it. If I'm with my girl I'll give them whatever as long as they don't bother her, but there's a definate chance when they turn to leave I'll just jump them. I've never been successfully robbed before and that would bother me.

No, I said I wouldn't attack the person because of that. I don't mind gambling with my safety but not hers. But I would be tempted when the guy turns around to ground him hard and take back my money or whatever.

That maneuver is more commonly known by it's street name of "Box Punt" and if not properly executed will simply infuriate your opponent, giving her She-Hulk levels of strength and anger. Use it carefully.

For me, its all about gauging the risk to others.
If I'm in a publicish setting, with other people very close by, and my assailant has a long range weapon, i.e a gun of any sort, I would probably give them what they wanted in order to keep the people around me out of danger.
If they had a knife or shorter range weapon I'd probably check them out, weigh their skills/will against mine, and if it looks like they don't know what their doing and have little to no actual combat skills, I will try and subdue them.

If I'm in a less crowded space, or alone, no matter what their weapon, it would all depend on how I gauged their skills. Once again, if they don't seem like they know what their doing, they don't have any training, I will go on the offensive and attempt to take them down.

One of the problems with people these days, is that they are convinced that guns are A) lethal, and B) something never to argue with.
A gun these days carries so much phsycological weight from movies and TV that is misplaced. The gun is only as effective as the user. Any punk can pick up a gun, any punk can fire a gun. But that doesn't mean they know how to actually use it efficiently in combat. Unexperienced people pick up a gun and feel like they can take on anybody. And thats a weakness that can be used to your advantage.

First of all, a mugger with a gun, really won't expect you to turn on them. They are counting on the fear that a gun is supposed to produce in you. Once you remove that as an option, they are probably going to take 15-20 seconds just to puzzle out why you are now attacking them. Thats more than enough time to disarm them and subdue them.
