It had a completely original story and new characters.
There are so many opportunities in the Star Wars universe, why not make up a new story with new characters for the next trilogy.
Personally, I'd rather see a story of the Great Hyperspace War and the Daragons.
Here's a link to some info on it.

Or would you rather see one with the same old characters in a new story?

omg.... you really wanted to settle this... the way you contrcuted the poll is biased to your point of view though so it isn't legit... ofcourse most people on these boards would see anything with a SW label... including myself

that's what I've been saying all along...
and how is it biased?
It's a simple yes, no, or maybe answer.
You can give a reason why you chose one.

Ya but most of us only apply as the nerds/or geeks that are movie junkies... now if you changed the poll to something like:

What would you rather see:

Luke/Leia New Jedi Republic trilogy
Boba Fett/Han Solo SPinoff
(those epics you listed above)

then you would see what we would prefer ofcourse

I'm not asking which story they would see, only if they WOULD see one.
They can say which one they prefer in a post.

My point is that the poll is biased towards your point of view an it didn't take into account my point... but fact is most people would prefer a movie with the established characters and those movies would obviously make more money than those epics you listed in all likely hood... I mean unless it was Peter Jackson directing them... that is something everyone would agree on

No because then it turns into Star Trek and cappy crap.

The OT should of been left untouched.

It depends. I've read some of the books and comics, played KOTOR, but I'm not going to rush blindly out and see anything that happens to have the Star Wars logo stapled to it.

If it was based on an established story I liked, or was an entirely new story that sounded cool, then yeah, I'd be there. But I'm a SW fan and not the general public.

I believe a new SW movie with unfamiliar characters would be a tough sell, but could still be successful, especially if Lucas took a backseat and let new writers/director do the heavy lifting.

Thats what I am thinking... lets see how the TV shows do... it supposed to have completely different characters... if they bomb... then we can probably dig this franchises grave... if not... we may have a whole slew of movies to come

that's kind of my point.
I'm not saying this will happen.
I'm just saying, if the Star Wars tv series is successful, and new movies are in the works because of it, Why not create a new series of films using new characters?
They can still go along with the OT's storyline, where Luke starts the Jedi Order anew, but they can also produce original stuff to go along side of it.

I do think a tv show is the best way to get people interested in a new era of Star Wars. If they don't get stingy with the $$$ and hire quality writers and production, actors, etc...then they could not only have a hugely successful tv show, but that would be a great springboard for new films as well.

I think it's a sound strategy anyway. *shrugs*

i would want to see a Star Wars movie done with today's standards in ALL aspects...

...not just special effects. that means today's standards of acting and writing also. oh...and more space scenes. the prequels didn't have enough of them.

In a word...No.

And I do believe today's standards of writing and acting have gone WAY down since the 1970s for American cinema. Just compare the Star Wars trilogies from each era and the content that made them respectively the biggest franchises of their decade.

So again, no.

do you mean the standards of the general audience or standards of movie buffs? the general audience standard will allows be fairly low but i think today's movie making standards have evolved into a higher form than was back in the 70's. for example, back in the 70's it was easy to get away with having a fake hit that had a 1 foot gap......now-a-days you practically have to hit the person in the face for REAL.

Instead of going forward with broken down Luke Skywalker or his son. I'd rather see a series of movies that started the whole jedi cycle. The last movie couls profile a young jedi night named Yoda. First movie should have the very first Jedi Nights and Sith Lords

Yeah, but the question is Would you see a Star Wars film... Of course people would. The question should be something along the lines of 'Would rather see X, or would rather see Y?'

Maybe....depending on the story, who wrote it, directed it, what the characters looked and seemed to be like, and the actors.

Damn, there's been so many SW threads recently. I don't understand why the Hype doesn't give in and give SW a subforum.

i don't know either o_O
I'd say the Jedi were superheroes.

I don't think I can take much more Star Wars after those prequels...
