Eh, it's not that I'm 100% convinced it's fake... it just seems a bit more drama filled now then what I remember, back when it was a bit more undergound. Then again, most professional sports are drama filled.
I guess it's just the hardcore "You still watch wrestling!? That stuffs gay man!!!" fanbase that really gets to me... To the point where, like it was said, I'd LOVE for it to get out that some things are scripted just to see those fans faces.
The UFC has always had some drama. It's just that the sport has gotten bigger that's all. As the sport gets bigger and makes more money, fighters are doing more the earn their share of the pie and make a name. Kos, Diaz, Mir are guys for example who have all said that they say certain things or amp it up to promote the fighter and get people interested. There's a lot of articles and MMA journalists who believe Dana White has modeled himself and his business off of Vince McMahon.
I recommend you checking out www.Bloodyelbow.com It's a fantastic site and it may help you appreciate MMA more.
I guess there's always hope that Sting WILL sign a Legends contract and get inducted into the HoF in the next few years. I mean, I totally expected this years HoF to be WCW themed as I'm sure others did as well.
Sting is every bit an icon (no pun intended) to the wrestling business as Taker, Flair or Hogan so he deserves to be in the HoF. I'd also throw money at Vince if he gave me a Taker vs Sting match at Mania. Yes, Taker is broke and sting is "old" but it would be on match that I wouldn't be watching based on "sweet ring skillz!"
Taker and Sting could both be wrestling in wheel chairs and it would be far more entertaining and believable than JR vs Michael Cole... or anything else Cole related.
Sting is never going to go to WWE. He has always had trust issues with how he'd be used. He's always had interest at points but he remembers how every WCW guy that went there was purposely booked poorly. He's made enough money over his career that he doesn't have to work a single day for the rest of his life and can enjoy the millions and millions of dollars he has.
I'd love to see a Taker/Sting match. Even with their age and injuries they have now, the most important thing about those two is they know who to tell a story and work the crowd. Their match would be very similar to Hogan/Rock from WM 18 in that it may not be a mat classic or extremely athletic display, but they'd be pulling the strings on the crowd and give it that larger than life moment type feel.
Here's an interesting tidbit. Sting is the only wrestler in the history to have been selected/awarded by Pro Wrestling Illustrated Magazine as the "Most Popular Wrestler of the Year" 4 different times. He won it in 1991, 1992, 1994, and 1997.
