X-Files: I Want To Believe

If they had trimmed it down and tightened up the story it would have been a good 45 minute episode. So I really had no major complaints, except I was hoping for something more than Doc Frankenstein theme, being a tried and true Phile and 'shipper since '93. I saw the movie with someone who is not any of those things and they did not like it and found it depressing.:whatever: Don't ask!

Im actually pleased it didnt turn out to be something 'more'. Throughout the movie, and lingering towards the end, I got the feeling that it was going to turn into something else suddenly like "All these scientists are Aliens!"
But they stayed the course and kept it smart.
The parts of the plot that bugged me was Scullys arc.'Does she want to be a doctor or want to help Mulder." Been there done that. Also the religiosity aspect. Since the series finale I thought that was the next direction of "unknown" for X Files.(the ghost of "X")
They could've done a little more to highlight that part of the storyline rather than fall back on Scullys reason for disbelief stemming from Billy Connely being a pedophile.

Got the BD this morning. On the Extended Cut, they added a bunch of behind the scenes photos on the end credits. It's cool.

Although it's obviously true that FOX wants to see the returns from DVD sales before assessing the future of the franchise, I wonder how Frank Spotnitz can say it's up to the fans with regards to future films! It was up to Spotnitz and Carter to give us a half decent X-Files film, and they couldn't even do that!

I bought the DVD, not for the love of the movie, but for the love of the franchise, and the pity I have for it.

Y'know, maybe it's because I've been hearing people talk about how horrible this movie was for the last few months now, but I finally watched this at home today for the first time and it's not nearly as bad as I expected. Granted, I would have preferred something on a slightly larger scale, and parts of it did seem like an average episode of the X-Files, but it was entertaining, all the actors did a good job (even Amanda Peet and Xzbit did an okay job) and it was fun seeing one more adventure with Mulder and Scully. Kind of glad I watched this with really low expectations because I actually ended up enjoying it more than Fight the Future.

If there is another sequel{and hopefully there will be}, it will most likely be Direct To DVD.

That's what I figure as well or at least at the moment until the producers say otherwise.

Actually, I was just thinking about this and I think my main problem with I Want To Believe was it was more like a good two part episode rather than a good movie. If they want to reinvigorate the franchise what they need to do is get a talented director on it instead of giving the movie to Chris Carter or Rob Bowman. They are talented when it comes to a serialized television series, but I don't think either of them had what it took to translate the material to the big screen. Keep Chris Carter as the writer and a major consultant on the film, and get someone on the series that will excite even people that haven't seen the series before. There is some epic material in the X-Files lore if they tackle the 2012 alien invasion. And in the hands of the right director I think they could pull it off without confusing people not familiar with the series.

I summon this thread from the grave...ARRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISE!

So, i've been going through the X-files series with my wife, who's never seen it. We're currently on the first movie and then on to the next season!

This is still easily one of my all time favorite series...it has the most memorable characters and it's still referenced even in current shows on occasion. Now THAT'S impact!!

I really, REALLY hope they do another film besides the two currently made. Heck...DTD would be fine even. A series of DTD's

I liked this movie but it seemed like a 2 or 3 part episode instead of a movie.

It's probably been said a thousand times, but this was a Halloween movie. Why Fox decided to put it out in the summer against TDK and all the other movies, instead of waiting for Halloween where it actually fit, and it's only competition was a lackluster Saw sequel, I will never know.

I fell asleep while watching this on a plane to London, so I don't even think I know everything that happened. What I managed to stay awake for didn't really hold my attention.

This X-Files was GARBAGE!!!. I wasted my money buying this scat on DVD. I gave it a 1/10. I would've given it a -1 if I could.

I wouldn't call it garbage but I agree with those who said it felt more like an overly long episode than an actual feature film.

They should do a mini-series on Fox. Sometimes mini-series have good looking budgets on TV....

now i just want to see this because of what people think of it..
