X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

I heard he made a lot of homophobic comments towards... bottoms. And myself, as a gay man, find hilarious the possibility of him being fired because of bottom shaming. But in all seriousness, they were pretty nasty comments. And I'm not sure how reliable this is.

His response to the criticism towards the black erasure in Sunspot casting did not sound good to me, so I already had an issue with him since then.

His firing makes me happy and worried at the same time. A jerk like that guy who played Shazam making a nasty comment about any minority is, obviously, unacceptable, but that's one thing. The people involved in the X-Men (directors, creators, actors, whatever) making those comments are a whole different thing. And I do not want that bad taste in my mouth.

They better investigate the actors life from birth before hiring them for the MCU. I do not want to see the actor who plays Cyclops being some sort of bigot. We cannot have that.
I know right? It's truly awful but also so deeply funny. What an awful man.

They're adapting Inferno (likely 2nd season, based on the episode titles). Make your judgements from there.
Boy they made her weak even with Phoenix Force. :o

Great.

But I hope they move on from the 80s and 90s for the upcoming seasons.

My french vanilla fantasy would be:

X-Men: changing the roster a little so other members can have a spotlight, and tell different stories.

Spin-Offs:

Wolverine: I'd take him out of the X-Men a little, with a few appereances, as unlikely as this is. And have someone like Kitty Pryde or Jubilee co-starring.

New Mutants: now that Sunspot is there, I'd have new show with the classic team: Magik, Dani, Rahne, Sam, Karma and maybe Doug, Warlock and Magma.

X-Factor: A team working for the government with Alex, Lorna, Guido, Madrox, Pietro. Eventually Monet, Rictor, Shatterstar and Syrin.

X-Force: Cable, Domino and Deadpool with some other members. Maybe Betsy and Warren could have a role here too.

Why? I struggle to think what stuff post-Morrison would look like to try and smash it into 97. Really, extremely few storylines are worth it. Some characters may be worth it, but as it is, there already is enough characters to keep things fresh.

Yes, characters and character arcs. Emma joining the X-Men is one of them. Scott taking a more radical approach is another that I particularly enjoy.

If we had a rotating roster and we could see other members in the main cast, like Havok, Lorna, Rachel, Kitty, Bobby, Alison, Colossus, Betsy, etc... yeah, I wouldn't mind keeping the 80s/90s inspiration. I'd actually love it.

But given how they're handling things, I think it's more likely to see Emma joining the team like we're seeing Erik now, than changing most of the main team.

Also, I've said multiple times I was not a very fan of this show revival, and instead, would love to see a whole new concept. And that my major complain about TAS it's that the show feels static, while in Evolution, for instance, you see the characters growing and the relationships developing. So this thing about moving past the 90s it's just something that gets a bit closer of shaking things up and having a fresh take we haven't seen in cartoons before. But that's just me.

Can’t speak on his work conduct, but I knew those thirst traps he posted on social media and the OF would come back to bite him.

He even posted a full frontal once, dude was bold.

If actors are able to appear nude in films or on magazine covers....the guy bts should be able to.

But I heard that wasnt the issue and his work ethic had been a problem for a long time on other shows.

Emma going good was a 90's storyline, remember. And though she didn't actually join the X-men, she was a main character in Generation X.

Exactly. Emma as an X-Men is not a 90s story as far as I remember. And she was a main character in Generation X, not the X-Men.

I don't know, I like the concept of moving past a little the idea that the X-Men needs to defined or inspired by the 90s so much, as much as I love this era... but that's me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's fair but doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of this show then?

Does it? I'm not sure. What is the purpose of this show?

They replaced Charles for Erik, added Sunspot and Bishop, and moved to 97. They've also always adapted stories outside the 90s.

But maybe you're right. TAS has always been a bit static, while in Evolution had a more sense of... development?

Evolution was really good. It gave us X23. :)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your original point but I'm not saying there shouldn't be any type of development. I'm just saying if they're making what is essentially season 6 of TAS and it takes place immediately after season 5, there's still plenty of storylines and character arcs they can adapt from the 70s/80s/90s comics with delving into anything that came after.

That and from the Morrison run onward, a lot of the stories from the last 20ish years might not gel with the 90s ascetic they're going for here.

The problem with moving past the 90s, is that the stories just start becoming obsessed with mutant extinction. And while there are some gems in there, as a whole, it affects the line negatively.

First reactions are saying Jean and Cyclops have pretty awesome moments in the first episode. Individually.

🙏
That’s cool, I bet the producers of the films are gagged
