X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

My french vanilla fantasy would be:

X-Men: changing the roster a little so other members can have a spotlight, and tell different stories.

Spin-Offs:

Wolverine: I'd take him out of the X-Men a little, with a few appereances, as unlikely as this is. And have someone like Kitty Pryde or Jubilee co-starring.

New Mutants: now that Sunspot is there, I'd have new show with the classic team: Magik, Dani, Rahne, Sam, Karma and maybe Doug, Warlock and Magma.

X-Factor: A team working for the government with Alex, Lorna, Guido, Madrox, Pietro. Eventually Monet, Rictor, Shatterstar and Syrin.

X-Force: Cable, Domino and Deadpool with some other members. Maybe Betsy and Warren could have a role here too.

I want a mutant invasion!
Child YOU WERE COOKING.

I like these ideas.

Trying to go through the series again, I did not realize how hard they went in on the FoH.

There is a lot of oooffff in this clip.

#1. The animation is fine when doing action, but oh god, I hate it in these quiet scenes.
#2. Proof positive that MCU X-men needs some major, major casting of PoC. Because as a white guy, I am embarrassed by this.

Just finished episode 1. Man, the nostalgia hits you like a Mack truck.

Pros
- The Animation looked really good.
- Loved the variation of the opening.
- Beast still as hilarious as ever.
- Gambit and Wolverine team-up payoffs.
- Storm going full Omega level mutant was awesome.

Cons
- Cyclops still as lame as ever. They tried so hard to make him seem cool, but he yet still comes across as the lamest member of the group. Some things never change.

Odd I thought the whole season was dropping at once, only first two showing for me. Still cant wait to check it out, its good to be excited about an X-Men thing again, feels a long time.

Well.....

That was 2 damn good episodes! Way better than i expected.
Agreed, there is a lot of good stuff in these two short episodes, the animation is nice and clean, not jaw dropping but very much in keeping with the 90's theme but the effects likes Storms powers are really nicely done.

And story wise, wow, its a lot already going on.

I don't know, I like the concept of moving past a little the idea that the X-Men needs to defined or inspired by the 90s so much, as much as I love this era... but that's me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I actually feel like if it keeps going for a very long time they should sort of go the opposite route. Instead of moving on from the 90s, really lean into it and keep going with the themes and characters from the 90s beyond what the comics actually got around to. You know how there's retrofuturism, like "futuristic" but with the limitations of how that was predicted to be at some point in the past? Something like that, but instead like an alternate history beyond the 90s X-Men that is how someone in the 90s might have predicted the future of the X-Men based on the themes and characters they knew. Things like actually having Generation X become the next generation of X-Men while keeping the 90s aesthetic.

Wow opening with a shot of the Twin Towers. They aren’t playing

I've already seen people complain that Gambit looks gay lol. Crop tops have been a straight thing FOR AGES

Never crossed my mind. More like underused. :( Watched the first episode, moving on to the second. Forgot just how cheesy this is. Evolution felt more realistic to me, more in touch with reality. This still feels at minimum too juvenile. I was hoping for something a little more grounded like the movies.

Second episode was better.

Logan's reaction to Jean going into labor was freakin' hilarious! :p

To juvenile and less realistic? Interesting take

I think it definitely is hightend reality but still manages to feel fairly realistic to me if i had to imagine a world with super powers.

How is it juvenile though?

Man watching these really does transport you back to the 90s.

So much to love, and its soo great to see so many of the old VAs. Though I do actually think Jubilee's new VA might be better than her original.

And boy howdy do they dive head first into the thick of it all.

And its really refreshing too see X-Show explore new story lines than the usual Dark Phoenix, DOFP etc. Plus seeing cameos/nods to newer mutants like Dust and Goldballs was great.

ALSO that SPIDEY easter egg....BRING BACK THE 90s SPIDERBLOOD! WE GOTTA SAVE MARY JANE!

I mean two episodes in and we have
Trail of Magneto, the whole Mags/Rogue history, the debut of X-Cutioner, Storm's depowerment, and most importantly of all....ITS MADDIE TIME!

This was all I dreamed and wanted for in a long time. Such a good one two punch.

And Rogue...

I clutched my pearls when she and Magneto touched and poor Gambit cried!

But great start to this show.

Cons
- Cyclops still as lame as ever. They tried so hard to make him seem cool, but he yet still comes across as the lamest member of the group. Some things never change.

Lame?!

That first episode showed exactly why Cyclops IS the leader. Scott was amazing, if there was anyone that was a little lame it was Morph with the jokes. But that's how they've always been anyway.

Maybe what I meant to say was too PG? I liked the darker feel of the Manga cartoons and the movies. I think I might be too old for a gentler take on things. The too formal speech patterns of Storm and Magneto kind of nags too, but then '87 was like that, too.
