X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

My choice would've been Josh Fine if he wanted the gig, but no idea if he would've been interested.

Also, say what you will but What If animated is a success and is getting a third season. I get if people here don't like it, but from a production standpoint, they probably gave him the gig since they have a working relationship with him, and he's done work for them before. Meaning they find him to be reliable and he gets the work done on time.

I have no idea why Beau DeMayo got fired from X-Men '97, but it's not the first time he got fired from a popular series. Also, it's not like he created X-Men: The Animated Series either. Point being, he's not the only person capable of doing a good job with this saga.

But Vile, the real question is, will someone be able to leave an indelible mark on the show in the same way as DeMayo?

Considering how forgettable What If was, I’m not so keen on that.

I am just confused as to why there was no one on the current production team that was able to be promoted.

Eh like I mentioned before, I feel it's a bit of a disservice to all the rest of the crew that all praise for the show is being put soley on Beau. Especially since we don't know for sure why he got let go in the first place. As far as the new guy, What If season 2 was a step up at least but we'll see. I just don't think Beau and Beau alone is the only person capable of making a good show.

Hypothetically? Yes. Will it happen? Dunno.

Once again, Beau DeMayo didn't create the X-Men animated saga or lay the groundwork for all the popular characters and versions of X-Men that inspired both X-Men: TAS or X-Men '97.

He didn't create or lay the groundwork for XTAS or the stories but he did lay the groundwork for the revival. It is his pitch that it's based on and we've seen a lot of stories adapted over time.

He brought us the quality, the queerness, and the love of source material. Taking all those things and remaining true while also putting your own spin on it that is still just as good is hard to do.

Look at the DC COIE dtvs....

OK, but that's not my point. My point is other writers and creators can accomplish this as well. And most of his work will still be in Season 2.

Yeah everyone is replaceable. It's just harder to replace those that give a show it's initial voice and feel.

So it will be interesting to see if everyone who has been with the show since its revival, if they can maintain that come S2/3. Beau's "voice" will still be a big part of Season 2 but even designs and everything that he was part of (that he isnt in S2)....we'll see if that queerness remains with the show.

It worked out for Walking Dead, and some of the actors were upset about losing Darabont.

Hmmm most shows peak during their 1st season, unless the 1st season was bad or just okay.

So I would be surprised if the 2nd / 3rd season are better.

I just can't wait to see the live action adaptation by Feige and act as if it's totally original. :o

How can anything based on a known IP ever be totally original?

While I personally don't feel DeMayo was right for the job, feels like they are going in the wrong direction.

In the context of the MCU he's not wrong. I don't like what happened with Sharon Carter in the MCU, but he's not responsible for that. The movies made Peggy Carter into his one true love, and his whole ending was about returning to her. He never even had a real relationship with Sharon.

I personally dislike what happened with Steve because I don't think it's right for the character or something he would do. But they wanted to give Steve a happy ending and write out Chris Evans. So that's what we got.

And frankly, the MCU has done this repeatedly. Plenty of characters have been significantly altered or changed to fit the framework of the MCU.

Fans were never attached to Sharon Carter or uplifted Sharon Carter. The character they got attached to was Peggy. That's why Peggy got all the spinoff appearances. That's why she got her own series, and that's why she ended up with Steve.
