X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

I think it's literally just an Easter Egg...I didn't take it to mean Tom Holland's Peter Parker is snapping photos in the X-Men '97 universe. If anything, it's this Peter Parker & Eddie Brock:

Yeah, and it's sad because when I think of Wolverine I still hear Dodd's OG voice.

This fan retrospective of the show actually featured Dodd reprising the role as a guest appearance and it came out right as the new season was announced, and although it's rough, you can get a better listen at how he sounds as Wolvie now. There are lots of moments where he sounds much closer than he does in the trailer. There's a lot of Dodd sprinkled throughout this, but you can skip to the last minute or so to get a good, uninterrupted scene.

Yeah, he's not going to sound 1:1, but Cal's return won't be a complete wash.

Oh I know it's those versions, that's who I was talking about. Venom got sucked into a portal after fighting Carnage in season 3 and Peter left with Mademe Web to find MJ at the end of the series. So they are technically both MIA, out in the multiverse somewhere. And last I checked Spidey TAS is in the same universe as X-Men TAS. The most likely situation is, it's just an easter egg and they weren't really paying attention to what those characters were up to since they're not even the focal point of this show anyway.

Yeah, Brock doesn't make sense, but Peter might easily have come back by the time this new season starts (especially since Jean wasn't showing at the end of season five), so it's been a few months, at least. Although if we're being strict to the release schedules of each series, Spider-Man ended a year later, in 1998, so one could argue that Peter hasn't had his big multiversal adventure yet at the time of this new X-Men season.

Personally, I never thought that Peter and Madame Web were going to have to undertake very much of a quest to find Mary Jane, as I had no doubt that Web could zero-in on her location without much trouble. Although they didn't actually show us Peter finding MJ, it actually was intended as the last episode (since it was at end of the originally contracted 65 episodes), so it sort of is/isn't a cliffhanger.

Ah gotcha. My mistake. I forgot about the whole Madame Web cliffhanger

Yeah it was was originally only greenlit for 65 episodes, but I know Semper has said over the years he was actually hoping to do a 6th season and had story ideas for it. But you're right though, I don't think all of season 6 would have been multiverse stuff. Based on what Semper has said, it seems like at most it would have been the first 2 or 3 episodes of the season.

Looking it up now, it looks like X-Men ended September 1997 while Spidey TAS had it's last episode in January 1998. So the gap is only 4 months, not too big. Though I guess they could say if/when Peter ever returns back to his Earth, Mademe Web probably returned him same moment in time that he left, to avoid any loss in time. But yea the Brock thing doesn't make sense. Don't see how JJJ would rehire him lol.

Spider Blood...Spider... Blood....Radioactive spider blood....

It makes sense that John had extra ideas for Spider-Man, since X-Men had a last minute order for more episodes (the four-parter "Beyond Good and Evil" was the original finale), so Semper was probably prepping for the same. Sadly, Avi Arad picked a fight with the head of Fox Kids, effectively nixing the chance for Spidey to get more episodes.

To be fair though, "Farewell, Spider-Man" always pleased me with how final it felt. Peter manages to reconnect with Uncle Ben, saves the entire multiverse (you're welcome, MCU) and meets his maker, learning to love himself and finally be satisfied in the life he's lead, ultimately resolving his overall character arc on the show. We didn't actually see him reunite with MJ, but I never doubted they did. Frankly, I've always thought it was a beautiful ending.

...but if Disney decided to revive it, you wouldn't catch me complaining :o

And its clear the style mandated on them doesn't work with Studio Mir.

I like the animation a lot less than I thought I would, but it's still a very exciting show and a comeback.
I was thinking they didn't want polished animation so it would look like the older cartoon. It does look
cheesy though. :(

Yeah... I won't judge Cal Dodd's performance from only one line, but it was the only thing in the trailer that seemed off. A shame if he couldn't quite get the cadence back.

That being said Ray Chase is doing an amazing Norm Spencer impression.

The animation looks a bit weird, I remember the original changed animation styles in the last couple episodes. This looks better than those did. But something still seems off. Anyway can't wait to see where we go. I loved all the stories with cable and time travel in them back then. Now that "Jean" is pregnant we might do the askani story. I hope we do alot of the Cable Sinister stuff. I am a big fan of Cable.

If Shard does appear, maybe it'll lead to a revival of her in the comics.
