X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

I will forever maintain that Rogue's treatment thus far in X-Men '97 has been tantamount to character assassination.

I respectfully disagree my friend. You know what character assassination was? 20 years of Fox movies and Foxverse adjacent cartoons with Anna Marie being a victim instead of the sassy but conflicted brawler that we all know and love.

What are you seeing?
I see the posts, but they are blank. When I hit reply I can see the bluesky url embeded.

Weird because I can acess bluesky here. Through browser and app.

I liked the portrayal of all characters, basically. Rogue included. I think she had one of the most interesting and intriguing arcs this season.

But I want to highlight Kurt now. I just really, really loved his portrayal.

The only thing I would complain about with Rogue is that they are only now mentioning she had this past romantic history with Magneto that never got brought up before.

Yeah, but that's a retcon I could deal with. Gave us some good old fashioned mutant soap opera drama!

Arguably it makes more sense that she did have contact with Magneto because she was a member of the Brotherhood. I'd hardly call this character assassination. Rogue was feeling conflicted and emotional. She's heartbroken that she can't touch anyone, and here's a strong, powerful, and charismatic mutant who she is able to touch. I feel like they addressed it properly. Not only that, Rogue ultimately turned down Magneto's offer. She had wanted to stay with Gambit.

So to call this character assassination, I'm sorry, it's absolute nonsense.

The most recent rumour now says there's an Excalibur series in development. Likely in the MCU and live-action, following also several rumours of Captain Britain's introduction in this universe.

Just a rumour, but I do not doubt these kind of ideas are being considered since the X-Men are joining in probably less than 5 years.

However I just really, really, really wanted this to be true and an animated series set in 97's universe. So other characters could get some spotlight here too like Kurt, Kitty, Rachel and Colossus.

One of my biggest hopes for Marvel moving foward is more stuff, like animation, developed with NO connection to the MCU.

Making an Excalibur series makes no sense unless you plan on having the X-Men and Mutants first. We are talking years down the line. You could make a Captain Britain movies or series first, but Excalibur should not come before it.

I agree Excalibur should not come out before X-Men.

But as far as I understand, a project "being developed" does not necessarily mean it will see the light of the day. Also, we first heard of VisionQuest back in 2022 and that show won't come out before 2026. Marvel Zombies and WonderMan also started development back in 2021 and both are scheduled for 2025. The later for December 2025, almost 2026.

They are already writing the script for the X-Men. With that said, I don't think it's entirely impossible they are developing ideas for projects to premiere after the X-Men are introduced. We also don't know how mutants will be introduced with all those theories of merging different universes. So there's a chance the X-Men are already an established team when that happens.

Anyway, I really hope this rumour is true and that it's a new animated show, and not MCU related.

Was what we heard about VisionQuest in 2022, or just a follow-up to WandaVision that likely featured Vision? Also, hearing about a new Vision series right after WandaVision organically made more sense at the time because we've seen multiple stories with Vision up to that point, and WandaVision set up the next chapter in Vision's journey. It's not quite the same sort of situation.

I feel like this episode captured so much of the X-Men essence. The soapy elements, family drama, political issues, the fun, the romances, the drama... it's all there.

I'm praying this What If season blows everything out of the park, so I can feel less concern.

I want the eventual Krakoa season to be better than S01.

I mean they basically did E Is for Extinction using Bastion instead of Cassandra Nova and mashed it up with Fatal Attractions. They can basically pick and choose from whatever storylines they want and use what they want and leave out what they don't.

And I loved how they adapted those storylines, mixing them.

They found a very good balance, imo, between being faithful to the comics while still surprising us.

Or you make the show so that Krakoa isn't necessary.
I'm sure you have valid reasons to dislike Krakoa or simply want the show taking different creative paths.

I loved it tho. Still reading it, but loving it. It was such a different take, high sci-fi in some aspects even. I felt it gave a breath of fresh air seeing mutants building their own society.

Oh, by the way, I wish the writers had the balls to hint, even if through blink and you'll miss easter eggs, an open relationship between Jean and Scott.

I know this will never happen because it wasn't even allowed in the comics, but it's fun to think about.
