X-Men 3 - My Version

Hey everyone, i'm new to these boards, and would like to introduce myself. i'm DarthDooku, first and foremost a fan of the awesome Star Wars Saga, but also a fan of other sci-fi and fantasy stuff, such as X-Men. Now after seeing the debacle that was X-Men 3, i decided to come up with my own version of the movie. What do you think?

The story would start out with the introduction of a cure, which is currently in development. After some plot development with Cyclops and Wolverine dealing with Jean’s death, Rogue’s desire for a cure, etc. there’s news of a huge meteor suddenly approaching Earth (sounds stupid at first, but stay with me on this, it could lead to great tie-ins for this movie and future sequels). The human community calls on the mutants to save them from this tragedy. Magneto and his crew decides to run to somewhere far away, and hopefully come back after the meteor hits and find all the humans dead. Xavier, however, tries to rally as many mutants as he can to stop this. Now this is a big meteor, not your average kind, and the mutants are unable to stop it. Suddenly, Xavier starts hearing Jean’s voice, and tells all the X-Men to travel to Alkali Lake. With the meteor approaching fast, Jean Grey majestically rises out of the water as Phoenix, and goes to space and stops the meteor. The meteor fragments into many small pieces, although one suspiciously large fragment lands somewhere in the artic, or somewhere far away at least.

After stopping this meteor, Phoenix falls back to Earth, and Xavier takes her back to the school to try and find out what happened. It turns out a super-powerful being is inhabiting Jean’s body, though for what purpose is uncertain. Eventually Jean wakes up, and recuperates. Phoenix goes around gaining new experiences, developing a fondness for the pleasures of life. Meanwhile, a few months have passed, and the cure is now ready for widespread distribution. Magneto decides to gather as many mutants as he can, and take a stand against the government and humanity by destroying everything related to the cure. Magneto gets his best allies, including Mystique, to sneak into the Xavier school and kidnap Phoenix, after seeing her massive power in stopping the meteor. Phoenix realizes how evil his intentions are, and then Xavier comes to try to convince her to leave Jean’s body, and after Xavier tries to telepathically force her out, Phoenix gets mad, becomes Dark Phoenix, and goes on a crazy rampage destroying a lot of stuff. Realizing that her power is too great, Magneto and Xavier combine to try and stop her.

Meanwhile, we see Rogue getting into a line to get the cure. Also, a guy named Cain Marko finds a piece of the meteor containing this crystal, and transforms into Juggernaut. With his new power, Juggernaut does a lot of criminal activities, and is called upon by the government to stop Dark Phoenix, for a hefty sum of money. So now, the X-Men, Magneto, Juggernaut, and the army are in a battle to stop Phoenix. Rogue comes into the battle, after deciding not to take the cure. While the other mutants distract Dark Phoenix, Rogue grabs her and starts absorbing her powers, making her go even crazier. Xavier uses her moment of weakness to enter her mind, and after a fierce telepathic battle, Phoenix is finally released and Jean Grey is back, although unconscious. Unfortunately, in the attempt to stop her, Rogue was killed, and even after Wolverine tried to bring her back as he did in the first movie, it didn’t help. A funeral service is held for Rogue, Magneto and Juggernaut escape (to be back in future movies…. this movie only served to introduce Juggernaut), and after seeing how mutants and humans can ally in a common goal (to destroy Dark Phoenix), the cure is put on standby. The last scene of the movie would be in the artic or some other exotic location, where we see that big fragment of the meteor lodged in the ground. The fragment starts to rumble and shake, and then it explodes, leaving a really shiny silver structure lying in the ground. Then, the credits start to play.

Now, my version of the movie could definitely use a lot of reshaping, and it seems a bit long. But it took what this movie had, focused it around Phoenix, still had the cure, and also introduced Juggernaut properly. Also, it tried to focus more on the real Phoenix storyline. There should be some more explanation on why Phoenix inhabited Jean Grey and stuff, and the movie should be trimmed down to flow better, but at least it stays more true to the comics. And what’s up with that ending with the silver structure? That may have to be reworked, but pretty much, the thing inside that structure turns out to be the most powerful villain the X-Men will face- Apocalypse! Of course, that would be a direct lead-in to a sequel. This version of the movie would have accomplished something that comic fans and just fans of the first two movies would both have enjoyed, and could potentially lead in to an amazing sequel. But instead, we got this trash that they try to put through as a concluding chapter to a great series. It gets a 5/10 for me.
