Sequels X-Men 3: Rebirth

Hiya, all! This is my version of X3. It's a work in progress, so expect things to change as I go along.

A few points before I start:

• There is no cure storyline
• Scott will not be killed off
• And a whole host of new and exciting characters will be introduced!

I hope some of you get the chance to read this through; it's what I wanted to see from X3, as the "end" of a trilogy, literally to sum things up.

You'll notice some parts have stayed; Danger Room sequence, Jean's flashback, Hank in the Situation Room etc. although the dialogue has been changed significantly.

The rest has been up to my imagination! I hope you enjoy.

BLACKNESS.

Then, a voice pierces that darkness; one that we’ve come to know and trust, one OF:

XAVIER (V.O.): Mutants… and humans. They’ve long struggled to coexist. While some try to unite the world, others try to dominate it. Neither strategy has prevailed. But when conflicts reach an impasse, inevitably something happens to shift the balance forever.

We speed through a DNA chain, until suddenly it starts to BURN, a bright crimson.

The words “X-MEN: REBIRTH” appear on screen. Then the cindered DNA chain turns to ash, leaving only DARKNESS once again.

Cerebro’s doors slam shut, and in the crystal lock, we FADE IN:

EXT. ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NEW YORK – STREET – DAY

A ROLLS ROYCE comes to a halt, beside a mailbox marked “GREY”. One of the passenger doors open, and CHARLES XAVIER steps out, free of a wheelchair.

Seated behind the wheel, a blue-haired BEAST sits. He turns to Xavier.

BEAST
I won’t have to separate you two this time, will I?

XAVIER
I think we can manage, Hank.

The opposite door opens, and ERIK LENSHERR steps out. He turns to regard Charles.

MAGNETO
I still don’t know why I’m here.

They start to make their way towards the house in question.

MAGNETO (cont’d)
Can’t you just make them say yes?

XAVIER
I could, but that’s not my way, Erik. You of all people should know my feelings on the misuse of power.

MAGNETO
Yes, of course. Power corrupts and all. When are you going to stop lecturing me?

XAVIER
When you start listening?

Erik chuckles.

MAGNETO
We’re not going to have to meet them all in person, are we?

XAVIER
No. This one’s special.

INT. GREY’S RESIDENCE – LOUNGE – DAY

Xavier and Erik sit opposite JOHN and ELAINE GREY, observing a leaflet.

ELAINE
It’s a beautiful campus. Don’t you think, John?

JOHN
Yes, the brochure is great. But what about Jean? And her illness.

MAGNETO
Do you think your daughter’s sick, Mr Grey?

JOHN
We just know it’s not natural. We need to know you can cure her.

XAVIER
I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that, Mr Grey. Jean’s mutation is unavoidable. The best we can do for her now is to help her control her abilities.

JOHN
Well you’ll probably have better luck than we have. She won’t eat. She won’t sleep. Not since Annie died.

ELAINE
A friend of her’s. Jean started acting… differently, when Annie passed away. She hasn’t recovered since.

Xavier nods.

XAVIER
Maybe it’ll best if we speak to her alone?

ELAINE
Of course.
[Calls upstairs] Jean, could you come down, dear?

A young redhead, JEAN GREY, comes down, and sits in an armchair opposite.

JOHN
We’ll leave you then.

Her parents leave, initiating an awkward silence. After a few moments, Xavier speaks, but his lips do not move. He talks telepathically.

XAVIER (V.O.)
It’s very rude you know, to read my thoughts. Or Mr Lensherr’s, without our permission.

MAGNETO
Did you think you were the only one of your kind, young lady?

JEAN
My kind?

XAVIER
Mutants, Jean. We’re like you.

Jean snorts.

JEAN
Really? I doubt that.

EXT. ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NEW YORK – STREET – DAY

Beast notices a CHILD on the pavement, licking a lollypop, gazing in his direction way, utterly astonished. Hank smiles.

Suddenly the child’s mother comes outside, and notices what her child is looking at.

MOTHER
Come on, what did I tell you?

As the child is dragged away, one of the CARS parked in the street suddenly lifts into the air. Several more follow. The neighbours gasp and look on in amazement, murmuring to one another.

Beast steps out of the car, just as the Rolls Royce lifts 10 feet into the air too.

INT. GREY’S RESIDENCE – LOUNGE – DAY

Erik and Xavier observe Jean’s display.

MAGNETO
Oh, Charles. I’m warming to this one.

XAVIER
You have more power than you can imagine, Jean. The question is: will you control that power?

Suddenly the cars crash to the ground.

XAVIER (cont’d)
… or let it control you?

EXT. BOSTON – DAY

LEGEND: The not too distant future

A familiar scene; the CHURCH. But it’s become a hotspot for vandals; the majority of the windows are shattered also.

BAMF! In a cloud of smoke, NIGHTCRAWLER emerges. The words “THE ONLY GOOD MUTANT IS A DEAD MUTANT” are spray painted onto the entrance; Nightcrawler shakes his head in disgust.

INT. CHURCH – DAY

BAMF! He emerges by the altar, where the majority of his things have either been trashed or stolen. But a scare few items remain, including the BIBLE. He lifts it up, and looks into the eyes of the Jesus statue above.

He sighs.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

THEN, AN EXPLOSION TAKES OVER THE SCREEN. WE’RE IN:

EXT. BATTLEFIELD – NIGHT

A war zone; buildings are in ruins, flames spring up from all around – and in the darkness, we spot two familiar figures; ROGUE and PETER RASPUTIN (COLOSSUS).

ROGUE
It’s getting closer! We won’t make it!

PETER
Quit the chat, Rogue, and keep your head down!

They come across a building.

PETER
Stop here for a second.

He steps behind what’s left of the stone wall; he pulls Rogue beside him.

ROGUE
But I thought you said-

PETER
Ssh!

ROGUE
[Under her breath] I think I preferred it when you didn’t say anything.

Peter presses a finger to his lips, reminding her to “ssh”. Rogue rolls her eyes.

A few moments pass.

ROGUE
When you’ve quite finished-

She steps out, but suddenly a spray of LASERS rains down to greet her!

PETER
Rogue!

He grabs her skin, allowing her to absorb his mutant power. Instantly, they both metal up, and the lasers simply bounce right off them.

Rogue whips her glove back on.

ROGUE
[Slightly embarrassed] Thanks.

He just smiles, and moves on. She follows.

EXT. BATTLEFIELD – ELSEWHERE

BOBBY DRAKE (ICEMAN) and KITTY PRYDE (SHADOWCAT) creep across the battlefield elsewhere.

KITTY
Where are they?

BOBBY
I don’t know. They could be-

He looks up to see TWO ROCKETS soaring down through the air… aimed for Kitty!

BOBBY (cont’d)
Kitty!

He raises his hands, and unleashes a jet of ice. They freeze, and fall to the ground with a thud.

He turns back; smiles, evidently impressed with himself.

BOBBY
I got your back.

Kitty grins back, but suddenly her expression changes when she sees a third rocket launching for Bobby.

KITTY
Now watch your own!

She grabs hold of him, as the rocket “phases” through, exploding harmlessly elsewhere.

BOBBY
Thanks, Kitty.

Then, over the hill, Rogue and Peter appear. Peter heads on, but Rogue stops for a moment, when she notices Bobby and Kitty… in each other’s arms.

EXT. ELSEWHERE – DESTROYED BUILDING

African Goddess ORORO MUNROE (STORM) sweeps down from the night sky, her cape billowing, as she lands softly on the upper level of a destroyed building.

LOGAN (O.S.)
The whole world’s going to hell and you’re just gonna sit there?

STORM
Logan? What are you-?

She watches as LOGAN lights up a cigarette.

STORM (cont’d)
Never mind. [Beat] Either keep your mouth shut or keep out of danger! I haven’t got time for your dramatics.

She flies off. Logan stares, bewildered, after her. He mouths “dramatics”?

EXT. ELSEWHERE – OPEN SPACE

Rogue, Colossus, Kitty and Bobby are waiting. Storm flies down to meet them.

STORM
Good, you all made it.

LOGAN (O.S.)
You’re one man down.

Logan strides up to them, cigar in hand.

STORM
Logan, you weren’t here for the briefing. So don’t start trouble.

Suddenly a pair of EYES shines down from the darkness, revealing the X-Men in a beam of white light.

PETER
Everybody move!

Kitty leaps at Bobby, and phases them into the ground as a lamppost is thrown their way.

STORM
Logan!

LOGAN
Oh what now? Am I breathing too loudly for you?

She leaps at him, gliding them to safety as a car drops in the spot where they just were.

LOGAN (cont’d)
[Annoyed] That was my last cigar.

He strides out back into the open space.

STORM
Logan! [He doesn’t answer; under her breath] Dramatics.

As Logan walks out boldly, a nearby bus explodes in a fiery display of energy!

ROGUE
It’s getting closer!

STORM
We have to keep moving!

Logan raises a hand, and extends his ADAMANTIUM CLAWS! He calls over to Peter.

LOGAN
Tin man, get over here.

He strides over.

LOGAN (cont’d)
Throw me.

PETER
What?

STORM
Logan, we work as a team!

LOGAN
Yeah, good luck with that. [To Peter] Throw me!

PETER
I-

LOGAN
Fastball! Now!

STORM
Damnit, Logan!

Peter sighs, and metals up; he grabs Logan, and launches him into the air. With a primal roar, Logan soars into the darkness.

A few seconds pass; then suddenly a MASSIVE ROBOTIC HEAD slams into the ground. Logan steps out from it, withdrawing his claws.

LOGAN
Class dismissed.

Storm shakes her head, rips her gloves offs and turns on her heel.

VOICE
Simulation complete.

At once, the battlefield, the fires, the ruined buildings all dissolve… and we see the familiar walls of the:

INT. DANGER ROOM – DAY

The X-Men stride out.

LOGAN
Colossus, nice throw.

PETER
Any time.

INT. SUBBASEMENT – CORRIDOR

They step out into the cool, crisp corridor of the Institute’s subbasement. Storm rips off her gloves, furiously.

LOGAN
You still on edge?

STORM
What the hell was that, Logan?!

LOGAN
Danger Room session.

STORM
You know what I mean.

Bobby, Rogue, Kitty and Peter slip past them, quietly.

LOGAN
Oh, lighten up, Storm-

STORM
You can’t just change the rules when you feel like it. I’m trying to teach them something.

LOGAN
I wasn’t doing that for my health either, you know.

STORM
It was a defensive exercise.

LOGAN
Well, the best defence is a good offence. Or is it the other way around?

STORM
This isn’t a game, Logan.

LOGAN
Yeah? You sure fooled me.

STORM
If you plan on sticking around this time, then you’ve got to work with us.

LOGAN
Maybe I’m just not up for playing superheroes right now.

He strides off. Storm glares irately as he does.

 

[Omega Boy]

EXT. WOODS – DAY

A figure emerges from the trees, followed closely by another; it’s DANI MOONSTAR and THERESA ROURKE CASSIDY aka. SIRYN.

DANI
C’mon, we’re almost there!

Suddenly she spots something up ahead.

DANI (cont’d)
Look out!

She tackles Siryn to the ground, as a RED BEAM shoots over their heads.

SIRYN
Would you warn me next time you do that?

DANI
Sorry.

JUBILEE (O.S.)
Don’t tell me you’re laying down on the job now?

They look up to see JUBILEE standing, hands on her hip, above them.

JUBILEE (cont’d)
Even the mute kid’s beating us!

Dani and Siryn climb to their feet.

JUBILEE
Let’s go!

They rush on, catching up with ARTIE; Jubilee streaks on ahead of him. She sticks her tongue out; he does too, a forked one.

DANI
Here comes another one!

Jubilee unleashes a horde of firework-like lights, which collide into the incoming red beam! The two energies explode.

They rush up to a hilltop, and stop, catching their breath. Through the trees, emerges SCOTT SUMMERS, with a stopwatch.

SCOTT
Very good, class. Two seconds off your record. I’m impressed.

SIRYN
We learned from the best.

Scott smiles.

SCOTT
Ok, I think that’s enough for today. Let’s head home.

He leads them down the hill and along a pathway, where, tucked away by a blanket of leaves and branches, awaits the BLACKBIRD.

Pan away from the class; watching through the branches as the class leaves, is PYRO. He turns and disappears.
