From Jedispyder,
So the person that died, as revealed in interviews, is....a nobody. Someone created specifically for this event, someone we never even see. We see the casket, but we don't see the person. And they died by getting hit by a car in a busy intersection (Cessily wanted to bring the kid back to life to slap him for dying so stupidly).
According to Bishop the funeral had 1/10th of the mutant population, mostly X-Men/X-Factor. We did get a guest appearance by Sebastion Shaw, who used an image inducer to appear as an old man so no one would suspect him. When questions by Prof X, he swears he was there for no ulterior motive, but wouldn't reveal if he knew the kid or not.
Beast and Maddrox have a discussion on why they can't just repopulate the mutant race, with Jamie creating duplicates of himself saying they have enough males. Beast says when a population is this low there is no safe to repopulate, that there would not be enough new genetic material. Beast decides he's going to need to do some investigation on whats going on (which will occur in all the back-up stories for the next several months).
Scott and Emma have a confrontation with the boy's parents. They think they're there solely to pay respect to the a mutant statistic, not to a human being. Scott urges otherwise, saying that no matter when one of a group dies people want to pay respect, but the father won't budge on his stance. Emma wants to give him a migraine basically as revenge, but Scott won't let her.
Scott talks to Logan, telling him that a year ago he tried to get the kid to come to the Xavier Institute but the kid wouldn't budge. It was at the time when open registration was occuring (making me think it was during Morrison's run, but probably not since its rarely reference). When the kid refused Scott just moved on.
I found the book to be really cool, it's a nice setup.
A couple of things that caught my eye
I wasn't really sure what was going on with the Wolverine and the time jumps.
I loved the part with Jamie making copies of himself to help repopulate the mutant gene pool.t:
The part with Cyke using his optic blast to make it rain was odd to say the least. I'll talk about that more in Cyke's thread.
