X-MEN FAIRY TALES
Issue 1 || Issue 2 || Issue 3 (July 19) || Issue 4 (August 30)

Covers (click to enlarge)

Basically these stories are reimaginings of the X-Men, or retelling old folk tales with X-Men characters.

I bought the first issue because of Cyclops... it's sort of strange, but it uses the original team in a very clever way (IMO). The art is beautiful and dream-like.

The second issue deals with Magneto and Prof X, apparently, and I think I'll pick it up.

The third issue is Rogue and Gambit, and the final issue looks like it could be a Jean/Cyclops/Wolverine triangle thing... looks very intriguing but I hope the entire issue doesn't look like the cover art.

So... discuss!

The first issue (Cyclops) is a retelling of the Japanese fairy tale Momotaro/Peach Boy. I loved it.

The second issue wasn't so hot, though.

Oh yeah? I think I'll pick it up anyway since I'm planning on getting the other two just to have them all. What's not good about it?

At first, I was having trouble getting into the fairy tale-style storytelling, but once I got over it I thought it was pretty great. I still laugh at Iceman's rendering and the blue monkey's facial expressions though. Adds to the charm, I suppose.

I laughed when I saw this on Marvel.com, especially when they use Cyke as the maincharacter in this old and famous fairy tale of Japanese......I wonder what reaction would real Japanese have when they read it....

Eh. I just wasn't into it.
Magneto and Charles' friendship retold with a bird and a turtle
. Whoopty do...

I wonder how will they re-tell the dark phoenix saga????

My impression as well. I'm not a Cyclops fan at all but I actually liked the first issue. The second issue was a bit too cute for want of a better word. I'm looking forward to the ghost story with Gambit, Rogue and Mystique though.

So Iceman is a dog?... How did they explain that one?... icy dog breath to ward off his attackers?

I was kind of curious about these books, but never had a chance to pick and of them up.

Uh... he was your standard mystical fairy tale animal. He had special powers for no known reason. Hell, Cyclops' character (Peach Boy) was originally a rabbit.

Well I guess they messed up and #3 is actually the fourth story.

Got mine today -- just read it, and wow, I loved it. I wish the art was different, but I realize it's a stylistic thing. The story was great though, imo.
